- Rose LMitcheldean, UK43 contributionsWe visited as a family of 5, a toddler , 6 yr old and teen.
Myself and my husband found it really interesting and the two older children managed to stay engaged for over an hour viewing the main hall of artefacts. I have never visited a museum with this kind of layout before but it actually worked very well and felt very considered. Moving up the hall as you moved towards more recent pieces made sense in placing them in your head.
There were not any interactive parts or activities to include children (as far as I could see) although there was a separate area opening in the afternoon with what looked like children’s activities. The toilets were very clean and plenty of them. We walked the grounds extensively and enjoyed the sights.
I don’t know if it’s somewhere we would come back to but it was free and we were very pleasantly entertained for several hours.Written March 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - martynDover, UK17 contributionsFantastic ground, fantastic atmosphere, could spark up where I wanted. The chips from the fritterie were superb, burger wasn't great, apart from that and the fact you can't get beer, it was a great matchday experience. I went to watch their great rivals, Lille a few years back, dull as dishwater. This was quite the opposite. - JustJWThe Hague23 contributionsVery atmospheric, beautiful setting. Big old trees guarding over the graves of more than 15000 German soldiers who fell during WW1.Written October 21, 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris DNew Westminster, Canada3,215 contributionsThis was a critical battle in 1917, where the Canadians took the hill, then held off repeated counter attacks. The historical details are well documented elsewhere.
But, to give an idea of the ferocity of the campaign; consider casualties of some 10,000 on each side, the use of mustard gas by the Germans, and the awarding of 6 (SIX!) Victoria Crosses.
The park itself is well laid out with a generous parking lot suitable for coach parking and wide paved trails that are wheelchair accessible. Each walkway describes one of the VC winners. In addition, plazas denote each regiment involved.
Take a moment to consider the bravery shown here by Canada's best.Written September 10, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
