Melrose Place Revival in the Works; Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga Set to Return
One of TV’s hottest addresses is getting a fresh coat of paint.
A revival of the Fox primetime soap Melrose Place is in the works, our sister site Deadline reports, with cast members Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga set to reprise their roles. The project is currently being shopped to networks and streamers.
The new series, written by Lauren Gussis (Insatiable), would pick up years after the original Melrose Place, with the former residents reuniting “when one of their dearest friends dies suddenly.” But the reunion “soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective,” per the official description.
The original Melrose Place — a spinoff of Beverly Hills, 90210 — debuted on Fox in 1992 and became a buzzy hit, following the scandalous antics of the hot young residents of a Los Angeles apartment complex. Locklear was a breakout star as ruthless advertising boss Amanda Woodward, while Leighton played Jane’s sister Sydney and Zuniga played photographer Jo. The Season 1 cast also included Josie Bissett, Andrew Shue, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Grant Show, Thomas Calabro and Doug Savant. (Deadline reports that “more original cast members are expected to join” the revival “if it comes to fruition.”)
Melrose Place was later rebooted by The CW in 2009 with a new cast, and Locklear, Leighton and Zuniga all made guest appearances to reprise their roles. The reboot was cancelled after just one season, however.

I hope they ignore it – mostly because once they scored Locklear, they didn’t know what the heck to do with her and completely ruined her character. I mean, she became…an art thief? It just made no sense whatsoever.
As someone who enjoyed the original, the time for this passed ages ago…very few of these reboot/ revivals survive. can we please give the time to something new and original .

I think it would be cool if they did a little nod to the CW reboot considering the three actresses, among others, made appearances with Leightons character being connected to Ashlee Simpsons’ Violot and then then Swan Sipos played the son of Michael Mancini.
But I’m thinking they are just going to retcon the reboot and act like it never happened.
This is one of my favorite shows ever, so yay! to this news.
Are we going to bring Sydney back to kill her off again? Or to ruin the shows memory but trying to make it “cool” again.

I may be alone in this but i actually liked the first reboot of this show. I recently attempted to watch the original series again and after the first few seasons i had to give up. I scanned through it to see how it ended but the last seasons of that show were a hot mess.
Had to check and make sure it wasn’t 2009 again.
Bring back Linda Gray as Heather Locklear’s mom as well. I loved Models Inc.

I was a fan of the original, watched every episode, but who is this for? The original and reboot both focused on people in their 20s and 30s starting their careers, getting married the first time, having kids. Does a show of these same characters in their 50s and 60s make sense?
So they‘ll kill off Syd a third time!? Sounds a bit crazy to try it after the reboot flopped so hard with what sounds like a similar idea. I mean you‘ll need some fresh and new characters, right!?

All 3 reunite. So Sydney’s death was faked in this as well. I’d say Carter paid off that doctor and took her away. The character who dies is said to be beloved by the three. Beloved. Only Jake and Jane fit that description. Jo wouldn’t come back if Michael died and if Billy died Sydney wasn’t close with him…et. It’s either Jane or Jake that died. My money is on Jane…all 3 were close with both characters but for Sydney to come back…Jane I’m guessing…

They should instead do a show that had characters from all the 90210verse. From the mothership, to MP, to Model Inc. (Just Linda Grey), to the CW’s 90210, but excluding the MP reboot which was a retcon mess.
Sidney is dead and buried, so Laura Leighton must be some dopplegänger twin of hers. We find out Sidney was adopted and the other baby grew up in the system then led a life of crime but she met MP’s own Matt (played by Leighton’s own husband Doug Savant) who recognised and told her all about Sidney. At this point “Mary” (named by the nuns at the orphanage) decides to impersonate Sidney since her rich husband has 🔫 himself and his father had died previously so there’s an inheritance there. The problem is convincing whoever admistered the estate that she’s the real deal but went into hiding thinking someone wanted to kill her and a decoy was buried in her place. Matt reclutantly decides to help her with that, testifying that he kept her hidden, but we know he was a goodie two shoes and that he soon after died in a car crash so he wouldn’t had the time to spill the beans. Now Mary/fake Sidney has lived for 25 years off that money and successfully avoiding Jane, Amanda or anyone else who knew that Sidney is dead.

Dang, they did Vanessa Williams (Rhonda Blair 1992-1993) so wrong.
In true Prime Time Soap Drama, they need to address the CW Reboot by making it a dream of one of the characters.
Or, since we are getting a dead body again, have it be the last thoughts of the person, as they are dying.
And have Kimberly Shaw locked up in some mental hospital, complaining about the “voice in my head, telling me I am a housewife on some suburban street” and then have the voice of Brenda Strong saying “They cant hear me. Only you can hear me – and I know what you did”

If they do it, they need continue to embrace the soapy madness. As far as the last reboot goes, Katie Cassidy’s character was a gem worth keeping if they ever wanted to nod to it.
