The Seven Sorrows of Our Lady

1 – The prophecy of Simeon

2 – The flight into Egypt

3 – The losing of the Holy Child at Jerusalem

4 – The meeting with Jesus on His way to Calvary

5 – Standing at the foot of the Cross

6 – Our Lord being taken from the Cross

7 – The burial of Christ

John 19:25

25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Seven Promises of Our Lady for those who recite the chaplet daily:

Our Blessed Mother revealed these seven promises to St. Bridget of Sweden in the 14th century. Our Lady said she would bestow seven graces to those souls honoring her daily by saying seven Hail Marys while meditating on her tears and sorrows:

1 – “I will grant peace to their families.”

2 – “They will be enlightened about the divine Mysteries.”

3 – “I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work.”

4 – “I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.”

5 – “I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.”

6 – “I will visibly help them at the moment of their death—they will see the face of their mother.”

7 – “I have obtained this grace from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son will be their eternal consolation and joy.”

Our Lady of Kibeho re-introduced the Seven Sorrows Chaplet to visionary Marie-Claire Mukangango in Kibeho, Rwanda in the 1980s. Our Lady’s messages to Marie-Claire focused on an “urgent call to repentance”: “Repent, repent, repent! Convert while there is still time.”

How do you pray the Seven Sorrows Chaplet?

Step 1 – (Optional) Make an Act of Contrition.

Step 2 – Pray one Our Father and seven Hail Marys for each of Mary’s Sorrows.

Step 3 – Pray three Hail Marys in honor of the Blessed Mother’s tears. Pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be for the Holy Father’s intentions. Finally, say three times: “Virgin Most Sorrowful, Pray for Us”
