When Patrick Hepburn 3rd Earl of Bothwwell was born in January 1512, in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland, his father, Adam Hepburn 2nd Earl of Bothwell, was 29 and his mother, Agnes Stewart, was 42. He married Agnes Sinclair in 1533, in Midlothian, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He registered for military service in 1531. He died in September 1556, in Dumfries, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, at the age of 44.
