Herd of cows, steep hill put end to police chase through Perth’s south

A herd of cattle and a steep hill have thwarted a man’s bid to escape police as he was chased through Perth’s southern suburbs on Sunday evening.

About 8.45pm, officers from Murdoch Police spotted a vehicle of interest allegedly being driven by a 34-year-old man on Coolbellup Avenue.

Footage from Police Air Wing, which started tailing the man, shows a clearly damaged car driving “at slow speed” along Forrest Road.

The car turns on to North Lake Road and can be seen in the helicopter vision swerving onto the wrong side of the road as it picks up speed while travelling south through several suburbs.

Smoke and sparks can be seen spewing from the car’s rear left wheel as the man finally stops in Mundijong and jumps out, running into nearby bushland in an attempt to lose police.

He ends up running through a paddock, but is forced to change direction by a herd of cows, which can be seen in the police footage chasing him towards the boundary fence.

After climbing through the fence to get away from the herd, the man encounters a steep hill which he struggles to climb, using his hands and knees to scramble up the steep terrain.

Having fled the herd of cattle, the man faces another challenge in his escape from police; a very steep hill.

Once he reaches the top he again attempts to run, but falls over, and is arrested not long after by police on the ground.

The White Gum Valley man has been charged with several offences unrelated to the incident. He was refused bail and was due to appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court on Monday.

It is expected he will be charged with further offences over the incident.
