Historical site, a must-see place in Kutaisi. Not far away from the center. about 200 steps from the main road, not tiring. Wonderful church with a great history.

Beautiful monastery in the mountains. Calm and quiet place to focus. Recommended to wear moderate clothes and if not prepared, pick scarves at the entrance, they are free of charge as the entrance.

The medieval monastic complex of Gelati was build early 12th century, which was the Golden Age of Georgia. It is a gem, showcasing architecture, paintings and mosaics. Unfortunately for me, the scaffolding and restoration works (that have been going on for ages) blocked nearly all the paintings and mosaics in the Church of Virgin the Blessed. But these things need to be done, so we just have to accept this (and come back in a few years).
Gelati, deservedly, is part of UNESCO's World Heritage not only because of its architecture, but also because it was an important educational and scientific center. The monastery and church are still active and lots of important historical figures are buried here.

A traditional take on local shopping. I imagine that every town, everywhere, had a market like this but they've all been replaced by out-of-town supermarkets ?

Include Okatse Canyon, which is 50 km north of Kutaisi, near Gordi village, in your itinerary. You can admire its an up to one-hundred-meter-deep gorge and lush vegetation.

Visiting Mate’s Wine Cellar was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped onto their picturesque vineyard, I was warmly welcomed into the family’s passion for winemaking. The guided tour was not just informative but also infused with personal anecdotes and the rich history of the vineyard, making each sip of their exquisite wines even more meaningful. I savored a diverse selection of wines, each crafted with meticulous care and showcasing the unique terroir of the region. The tasting experience was accompanied by delectable pairings, enhancing the flavors and leaving my taste buds craving for more. The hospitality extended by the family was unparalleled, making me feel like cherished guests in their home. Overall, my visit to them was an unforgettable journey through the art, culture, and love that define their wines and family legacy.

It’s a MUST when you are in Kutaisi. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a very pretty fountain in the middle of the square.
The items show those that were unearthed nearby during a "dig".

The reserve gets its name from the mountain on which it is located. There are several attractions in the reserve which include a covered gallery where you can see footprints of dinosaurs, a dinosaur museum where you can see the fossilized skeleton of a dinosaur and also get more information about the dinosaurs and a panoramic viewpoint which provides great views over the surrounding country.

However, the main attraction of the reserve is an underground cave with stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is a smaller version of the more famous Prometheus cave and is beautifully lighted up in different colors. Highlights of the cave include a sintered stone garden and a stony heart hall which has a large rock shaped like a human heart.

The entire reserve is located in a dense colchic forest which contains rare tree species. The panoramic viewpoint extends over the cliff and has a transparent floor. So you can see straight down to the bottom which is a very scary experience.

The park is beautiful but requires a lot of hiking and climbing. So make sure to weare sturdy footwear. The underground cave has a steady temperature of around fourteen degrees. So warm clothes may be appropriate.

You do not need much time to explore Kutaisi and its centre in particular. In my opinion the main square looks at its best by night!

Worth the view! River, river bed, city, cathedral and mountains - all provide for spectacular views. There are glass panes to walk over, that provide clear views of the rushing water beneath.
