Kristen Stewart has recalled the pressure she faced to label her sexuality at a young age after it emerged she dated both men and women.

The Twilight actress was notably in a relationship with her co-star Robert Pattinson and went on to date supermodel Stella Maxwell before going public with girlfriend Dylan Meyer last year.

In previous interviews, Kristen has identified as bisexual and has now explained how she wanted to understand her sexuality first before telling the world.

‘The first time I ever dated a girl, I was immediately being asked if I was a lesbian,’ Kristen told InStyle magazine.

‘And it’s like, “God, I’m 21 years old”. I felt like maybe there were things that have hurt people I’ve been with. Not because I felt ashamed of being openly gay but because I didn’t like giving myself to the public, in a way.’

Kristen went on to indirectly address her highly-publicised romance with Robert during their time starring in the Twilight movie franchise together.

She explained: ‘Even in my previous relationships, which were straight, we did everything we could to not be photographed doing things – things that would become not ours.

‘So I think the added pressure of representing a group of people, of representing queerness, wasn’t something I understood then.’

Throughout their four-year relationship, Kristen and Robert tried to avoid being pictured together when they weren’t posing with the rest of the Twilight cast on red carpets.

Twihards were devastated when their relationship came to an end in 2012 after it emerged Kristen had been having an affair with married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

Kristen, 30, has been dating screenwriter Dylan since August 2019 and they made it Instagram official two months later with a black and white photo of them kissing.

Dylan captioned the image: ‘Find me under the covers hiding from the happiness police.’
