Breakdown showing fee assistance for the last academic year’s intake into Year 7 and Sixth Form:

Almost one third of new pupils received some form of fee support. Out of these the split was as follows: 8% had 100% of their fees paid for, 8% had between 50-99% of their fees covered and the remainder had between 5-50%. Half of these were means-tested and all pupils receiving 100% of the school fees were means-tested.

Bursary support with school fees – Assisted Places

King Edward’s School is committed to broadening accessibility by offering eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with school fees. The school offers a number of Assisted Places which are means-tested. These are available for new entrants to the school coming into Year 7 and the Sixth Form. Assisted Places are not available at Year 9 entry.

These awards can cover up to 100% of the tuition fees. Boys awarded free places are also eligible for a uniform grant, and may be eligible for a travel grant and free school meals. Last year, King Edward’s School offered Assisted Places to almost one quarter of its intake that year. Some pupils may be awarded both a scholarship and a bursary.

To apply for an Assisted Place, new entrants will need to complete and return our Assisted Places application form. When you register online to apply to the school, please tick the box to apply for an Assisted Place. 

All Assisted Place applications are subject to annual means-testing and may be varied upwards or downwards depending on parental circumstances and financial information provided on review.

Scholarships

King Edward’s School offers scholarships to pupils who have shown particular academic or musical aptitude or talent. The percentage of fee remission for a scholarship varies from 5% to 50% of fees. About 15 to 20 scholarships are offered to pupils every year in the Year 7 intake and about three to boys entering the sixth form; they are occasionally awarded to boys entering Year 9. Academic scholarships do not need to be applied for; boys who do exceptionally well in the 11+ Entrance Exam, 13+ Entrance Exam, or who have excellent predicted grades at GCSE, will be called for interview. To apply for a music scholarship, please tick the relevant box on our online registration form and you will be sent a further form to complete.

Year 7 scholarships

We award scholarships to pupils entering the school at Year 7 who demonstrate exceptional ability in their entrance examinations and school reports, and who we believe will contribute markedly to the life of the school. If a candidate performs particularly well at interview, this is also taken into consideration. Successful pupils will be notified in their offer letters. Scholarships are awarded for the duration of a boy’s time at the school, subject to conduct and good progress.

Sixth form scholarships

Sixth form academic and music scholarships are available to external applicants. Sixth form scholarships are awarded to the most able candidates or to those who show considerable potential. Awards are conditional on agreed performance at GCSE.

Music scholarships

Music scholarships are offered at 11+ and occasionally 13+ and 16+. All candidates must be of a high standard and audition to be considered.
