Europe's kings and queens of Karate to be crowned in Gaziantep

The best Karate athletes in Europe are travelling to Gaziantep (Turkey) from May 25 to 29 to fight for the continental titles in an anticipated event.

Over 500 karatekas from 45 countries are expected to clash for the European crown in Gaziantep. The event starts on May 25; the elimination rounds are scheduled from May 25 to May 27 while the finals will take place on May 28 and May 29.

Olympic champions Sandra Sanchez of Spain in Female Kata, Ivet Goranova of Bulgaria in Female Kumite -55kg, Steven Dacosta of France in Male Kumite -67kg, and Luigi Busa of Italy in Male Kumite -75kg are among the stars headlining the event.  

The tournament is especially remarkable for current World champion Sandra Sanchez and five-time continental titleholder Luigi Busa who are making their debut on the international stage this season.

In addition to Spain’s Sanchez and France’s Dacosta, Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan in Female Kumite -68kg, Maria Torres of Spain in Male Kumite +68kg, and Gogita Arkania of Georgia in Male Kumite +84kg will capture the attention of fans as they aim at winning the double world and continental crowns.    

The last edition of the event was held in Porec (Croatia) last year. Turkey topped the medal table with 9 medals and six golds, followed by Germany and Spain with 5 and 4 medals, respectively.
