Neighborhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighborhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighborhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

I was a movie star for a whole minute
Just go. This is a magical place full of interesting film clips explanations on animation and the chance to star in your own 1 minute movie !! This movie was sent out to our friends as a living hillarious postcard . No one at all in there , such a shame as it is brilliant. It's just on the other side of the Charles bridge on the left.

    Great museum of film tricks
Great museum, nice interactive exhibits. They show many of the animation and other filmmaking tricks in detail. If you like technology, old-style films, or just films in general, it is well worth a visit. There's a quiz game for kids, which seemed quite fun, although I did not actually try it. Only negative is that some interactive exhibits don't work properly, they need a bit of love...

    An inspiring and innovative museum
Karel Zeman, a prominent Czech film director, artist, production designer, and animator from the 1940s and 1950s, left an indelible mark on the cinematic world. This museum vividly illustrated his immense creativity and demonstrated how he crafted numerous fantasy films in an era devoid of today's CGI technology. As movie lovers, my family and I relished our visit to the museum. It boasted a lot of interactive exhibits, offering a glimpse into the intricate process of film creation during the 1940s. Zeman's innovative ideas not only captivated audiences of his time but also served as a wellspring of inspiration for countless producers and directors, contributing to the wealth of exceptional movies we enjoy today. Although the museum itself may not have been expansive, its significance was huge. The wealth of information presented underscored the enduring impact of Karel Zeman's contributions to the cinematic landscape.

    Hidden gem
Lovely little museum, the animations seemed reminiscent of our childhood, I wonder if left leaning BBC showed Czech films in the 70s as it all seemed very familiar?! Why have we never heard of Karla Zemana? He was innovative and ahead of his time. I can see kids would love this place as you can create your own green screen film, brilliant...I did and it was fun...a hidden gem for sure..

It took all of about 20 mins to go around museum. Unless you have an interest in this particular film maker then I would say don’t bother. Lots of reading plaques on walls. The odd thing that is interactive but as it’s about old fashioned methods of adding special effects my kids were not impressed. In a cute courtyard though with a cafe.

After walking across Charles Bridge we looked down to this little courtyard where the museum is. There were restaurants around the square and visuals of films that were made by Karel Zeman. A throw back in time.We didn't go into the actual museum as it was getting late

If you don't know who Karel Zeman is then you have missed an important part of film history. This man influenced people like Spielberg, Lucas, and Burton, to write some of the greatest films in history.
It has interactive displays and shows how Zeman used numerous techniques to create one scene - long before anyone else figured it out.

It's a little museum, not for everyone, but film buffs and kids will love it.

I am 60 and did not think that I would enjoy this museum, which is situated on the left hand side , under Charles bridge on the castle side. its a tribute to the great Czech film maker Karel Zeman and shows how special effects were done before the days of CGI. its an hands on museum with many interactive things people of all ages can enjoy, and with entrance fees at only 200 Crowns its a cheap afternoon out . Do go I thoroughly recommend it.

The presentation is relatively boring and lacks any excitement.
The descriptions are in Czech as well as in English. Staff not particularly friendly.
Suitable for young kids and film fans. Nothing special, easy forgettable.
The price is quite high for a rather small museum.

Not the most exciting place to visit but it was interesting to see what Karel Zeman was capable of many years ago. He really was years ahead of his time, almost as if he had traveled in a time machine to the future for ideas. Obviously it is nothing like the special effects we have today but that is what makes it so interesting. Lots of little things to see and read about. There is a flying machine as well as a flying horse that you can play around on.
