One of the oldest neighborhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. This monument stands in tribute to the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV. Created for the 500th anniversary of the founding year of Charles University, this Neo-Gothic sculpture has a tower acting as a pedestal topped with a sculpture of the smiling Charles wearing his imperial regalia. Around the tower, below the emperor are four allegorical sculptures representing I think the four original faculties of the university, theological, medical, legal and philosophical.

Worth a look if near Charles Bridge, it’s right next to it. Very popular gathering point for tours and people sitting, so it takes a bit of patience to get a clear photo.

When you come off the Charles bridge take a look at this statue. Dedicated to the father of the nation . Nice to see but you don't need to spend much time because the inscription isn't English.

This monument is in honor of Charles IV, referred to in Czech Republic history as the father of the country. Not only King of Bohemia, but also elevated to Emporer of The Holy Roman Empire, he was one of the most influential people in all of Europe. This monument was erected on the 500th anniversary of Charles University. Take a close look as it a beautiful statute. Charles is of course the center attraction surrounded by 4 influential people of his time. Before crossing the Charles Bridge on your right is a small park with the monument.

It is very ornate, as it was typical for mid-nineteenth century monuments. It is worthwhile to spend some time by it, as the King’s figure is surrounded by figures depicting other important persons of early Czech history, the builder of St. Vitus Cathedral among them.

This is a large statue for one of the kings of Bohemia. I think. It’s an impressive statue and is right across the bridge so it’s easy to find.

A beautiful statue, but alll in all just a statue. Not quite a must see. It's enough a 5 minutes stop for a couple of pictures. You can find it right beside the Old Town Bridge Tower

At the end of the Charle's Bridge.

The bronze statue of Charles IV in a royal outfit with a crown on his head; in his right hand he holds the founding document of the university, and has a sword in the other hand.
The statue is about 4 metres high and it stands on a pedestal of the same height.

The pedestal is adorned with allegories of four faculties: faculty of theology, medicine, law and philosophy.
On the corners there are four figures of the significant personalities from Charles' time: Arnost of Pardubice (the first Prague archbishop, and an advisor and diplomat to Emperor Charles IV), Jan Ocko of Vlasim (the successive Prague archbishop), Benes of Kolovraty (he accompanied Charles IV. on his way to Rome for coronation) and Matthias of Arras (French architect, the first builder of the St. Vitus Cathedral at the Prague Castle).

Charles IV known as the father of the country. He makes Prague as the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. He founded the oldest university in Central Europe – the Charles University – in 1348. Many places and buildings in Prague and in the whole country bear his name: the Charles Bridge, the Charles Square...
This monument was made for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Charles University.
