TV anchor Sandy (Christine Lahti) becomes friends with her aerobics instructor, Holly (Mary Tyler Moore). But their friendship is threatened when Sandy visits Holly's home for dinner and realizes that the man she's been having an affair with, Dr. Chip Davis (Ted Danson), is Holly's husband. Sandy attempts to end the affair, but Dr. Davis is soon killed in a horrific car accident. This was one of my late mother's favorite movies, so when I saw it pop up on TV recently, I thought I'd revisit it in her honor. Let me just start by saying this - if the Hallmark Channel were around in the mid 1980s, this would have been playing 24/7. Death, deception, secrets, lies, affairs, earthquakes and aerobics - who could ask for anything more? Frankly, this is the cinematic equivalent of fast food, and it would be totally insufferable if it weren't for the caliber of the cast involved, particularly Christine Lahti, an actress who can practically do no wrong in my book. This will never be confused for high art, but it's definitely watchable in a Days-of-Our-Lives-Young-and-the_Restless kinda way. So in honor of my mom, I give this a slight recommendation. And once again, if you're a Hallmark movie fan, grab some popcorn and watch it on loop for at least 72 hours.

Unusual situation develops when woman unknowingly becomes friends at the gym with the wife of the man who she is having an affair with. Awkward dinner party was interesting but film drags on too long with Danson's death and subsequent baby.

Adult-oriented drama has women becoming friends unaware that one is having an affair with the other's husband; made more complicated after his untimely death. This one had no hope for blockbuster appeal and really didn't appeal to me either, despite credible production and cast.

Ahh, yes, 1986 - this was the time when people thought casting Ted Danson for something other than a bad TV series was a good idea. He has the screen presence of a fruit basket. It does pick up once Waterston moves into the main picture.

Funny, gut wrenching, honest movie. It shows friendship from all angles, not just the two primary characters. The fake, shallow friends as well as those that are there for life no matter what are all covered.

Synopsis
