I saved a man's life, but at what cost to myself? Can I convince him to save me in return?
I hate him for what he's done to me. But the longer I'm trapped with him, the harder it is to cling to that hatred.
He is an enigma of a man, one who is shockingly arrogant, sweetly contrite, and frighteningly aggressive by turns.
And the pain in his eyes is a mirror for my own.
The longer I remain in his grip, the more confused I become.
Is my freedom worth betraying him?

About the author
Julia Sykes is a USA Today bestselling author of edgy, emotional romance. When she's not writing, she's usually reading.
Other than reading, her obsessions include iced coffee, unicorns, charcuterie, aged Manchego cheese (or any cheese, really), fancy dresses, and Roman empresses.
An American expat, Julia now lives in her adopted, beloved home of York, England. Most days, you can find her wandering the cobbled streets and daydreaming about her next novel.

I didn’t like the direction JS takes the story when she made Claudia an undercover snitch/spy. I know Claudia agrees only to try and exonerate Sean’s criminal behavior as well as find out who murdered her parent’s. (I thought her very naïve to completely trust and believe that an FBI agent would A). protect her and B). find her parent’s murderers). JS inserts this plot twist for dramatic effect and tension…I know this. I mean, she’s gotta bring this story to a close somehow! Still it didn’t sit well. The ending isn’t believable. It all gels too easily…a life long member of the Irish mob suddenly willingly to work with the FBI and trusting them to grant him full immunity? Nah. I don’t think so. Still a good story not solely based on sex, and I gladly recommend.
This story has significant execution problems involving highly repetitious use certain vocabulary words. Author used "smile" ("smiling", "smiled") more than 100 times, including “small smile” which was used at least 14 times, and various other forms (lips quirked, curved, curled up, etc.) used at least 9 times. She used some form of “grin” at least 45 times. She also used some form of “laugh” or “chuckle” at least 25 times. Additionally, she used the word "smirk" at least 11 times. She did occasionally use a synonym (beamed) and used adverbs to describe smiles and grins (wolfish smile, predatory smile, silly grin, devilish grin, etc.), but this did little to reduce the bizarre effect resulting from her extreme overuse of smiling and grinning activity.
One has to wonder it the repeating of some activity during reports to the FBI, along with the extreme overuse of descriptions of smiling and grinning activity, constitute attempts to stretch the story.
The execution of this story was rated only 3 stars due to the author’s bizarre overuse of smiling, grinning, and smirking in the content, along with some hard-to-believe character actions and relationships. The story itself, minus those problems, would be worthy of of 4 stars. My rating for this book, as written, is 3 stars.
I have already read Claudia's POV as well as Sean's so knew the story going in. It was a treat getting their perspectives simultaneously & interwoven throughout the story I already knew. There were little treasures inside as well where Julia wanted to add just a little more to the story we knew.
The shorts at the end of the book have some familiar faces and more hot interactions between Sean & Claudia. It can remind one to let go & be free, trust, & communicate with your partner. Life gets in the way but if you trust them & lean on them it can be so much easier & all the more beautiful.
If you enjoy tales of dark stories with a mix of sexy times & sweet submissions check this book out & read the rest of Julia's Impossible Series...you won't be disappointed.
