Josh Debney

Producer

Josh Debney has emerged as a prominent, up-and-coming composer within the worlds of indie and genre filmmaking. Approaching his work with a rock musician's sense of collaborative energy, he's taken on an eclectic array of projects, from horror comedies to erotic thrillers, to action adventures. Most recently, he composed music to enliven the quirkiness of Netflix's newest hit show, Santa Clarita Diet. For this zombie-comedy, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant, he has juggled the complex tones of comedy and horror, creating music that simultaneously encapsulates the silly hum-drum of suburban life and the morbid horror of murder and cannibalism. Josh's first big musical opportunity came when he crafted the music for Nickelodeon's Emmy-winning series, Supah Ninjas, starring Ryan Potter, and George Takei. Drawn by the versatility and opportunity for musical freedom in the indie film world, Josh has bolstered several projects with his scores, including The Road Within, starring Dev Patel, and Careful What You Wish For, starring Nick Jonas. In 2016, he scored director Rob Diamond's complex and heartfelt family film, Love Everlasting, his first solo project, where he was given free creative control. Working alongside his father, famed composer John Debney, Josh has helped score iconic films such as Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher, and Walk of Shame, starring Elizabeth Banks and James Marsden. His musical experience began when he learned guitar at the age of eight. Throughout high school and his later education at the California Institute of Arts, he played with numerous different bands, which allowed Debney to subtly refine his craft and his ear for satisfying an audience. Josh lives in Los Angeles, where he is always searching for the perfect taco, along with making music of all sorts.
