Rangers: BBC pundit baffled why Lennon Miller talks haven’t started with Motherwell

Derek Ferguson is baffled as to why Rangers haven’t already made a serious effort to sign Lennon Miller from Motherwell.

The former Ibrox midfielder believes the teenager is one of the best young prospects in Scottish football “without a doubt”, and exactly the sort of player that the Light Blues need to be targeting.

He feels that the club have been “guilty” of overlooking the top talent domestically and is concerned that it is taking so long for there to be any concrete developments in this pursuit when Miller, 17, has been on their radar for over a year.

The BBC Sport pundit exclusively told Ibrox News: “Sometimes I scratch my head. This boy has been on the radar for the last year or so, I’ve known that.

“So why, talking from a Rangers perspective, would you leave it so long? You’d be making contact with Motherwell trying to sort some sort of package out.

“You want to get the best young players in Scotland signed with your club, and I think we’ve been guilty of not doing that.

“But Lennon Miller is one of the best young prospects in Scottish football without a doubt, so why Rangers have not already tried to tie that deal up I’m not so sure.”

Philippe Clement could benefit from a deal to bring Lennon Miller to Rangers.

Could Rangers sign Fir Park sensation?

Potentially part of the problem is the turnover in managers over the past three seasons at Ibrox since this campaign has shown how transfer plans come and go that way, with Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes both signed by Michael Beale and quickly leaving under Philippe Clement..

It may be that, like some, the Ibrox hierarchy believes it is too early for Miller to move to the club and he would be better served developing further at Motherwell, which is quite valid as long as he doesn’t then move elsewhere.

If Rangers are going to try to sign the best Scottish talent then they might at least want to be in contact with Stuart Kettlewell’s side about a deal which allows him to remain at Fir Park for the time being, or else it may end up being too late.
