Jorge Masvidal accused of causing Colby Covington a brain injury in alleged Miami attack

UFC star Jorge Masvidal allegedly gave rival Colby Covington a brain injury when he allegedly attacked him outside of a Miami Beach steakhouse last month, according to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.

Masvidal officially pleaded not guilty to a pair of felony charges stemming from the incident on Thursday. He was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief, and was issued a stay-away order on Masvidal — which will stop him from going within 25 feet of Covington.

Masvidal, according to court documents, “struck Covington with a deadly weapon — his hands or fists — and caused great bodily harm (a brain injury),” per ESPN. He also allegedly caused more than $1,000 in damage to Covington’s watch.

Masvidal was arrested in March and was released on bail. He’s due in court next on May 12.

Masvidal allegedly confronted and punched Covington multiple times outside Papi Steak in Miami Beach last month. He was heard screaming on video, “ Don’t talk about my kids.” Covington told police at the time that Masvidal “ran up to him from his left and without notice punched him with a closed fist two times in the face.”

Masvidal then tweeted multiple times after the incident — “Good morning to everyone except those that think talking about someone’s kids is cool” — and called Covington out directly in a video.

“What’s up, I’m from Dade County,” he said. “You talk that s*** you got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls, man.”

The incident between the former friends and roommates came just weeks after Covington dominated Masvidal at UFC 272. Covington called himself the “f***ing king of Miami” after that win, which was a clear shot at Masvidal.
