FITZCLARENCE, Lieutenant-Colonel George Augustus (1794 - 1842). Journey of a Route across India through Egypt to England. John Murray 1819. single volume, first edition, 4to, (273 x 230mm), contemporary full-calf, raised bands, red leather panels lettered in gilt to spine, new e/ps., nautical bookplate of John Montagu Ratner, lacks half-title, dedication leaf, directions to the bookbinder leaf, errata, 7 engraved maps and plans, (one folding, 4 with explanatory letterpress leaf), 9 hand-coloured aquatint plates, 3 plain plates, 502pp. Abbey, Travel 519. An account of the author's journey from India to England in 1817-18 whilst carrying despatches. The author was the eldest son of William IV by Mrs Jordan, he served as aide-de-camp to Hastings in India 1816-17 and became first Earl of Munster in June 1831. (Qty. 1).
