Cubs Injury Updates: Hendricks, Roberts, Madrigal, Schwindel

Chicago Cubs

A flurry of Chicago Cubs injury updates before tonight’s game, so let’s run through them …

The (expected) bad news is that Kyle Hendricks will indeed be shut down for a while:

Last time, same issue, he took only two weeks between starts. Clearly, that was not enough, so you knew it was going to be a more protracted shut down this time. Even on the most optimistic timeline, Hendricks will not be back in game action until solidly into August. He was already out of mind as a trade candidate for me, but this only cements it.

Ethan Roberts’ Tommy John surgery has now taken place, and it was a success:

As for Nick Madrigal there, it was as we were worried it would be: definitely not nothing. The fact that he’s sitting out another week is not a great sign, and it’s definitely not good for a guy who just needs freaking at bats at this point.

Frank Schwindel is just about ready to go, at which time I suspect he’ll be swapped out for Alfonso Rivas, and will get most of the starts at first base for the time being:
