Texas legend Johnnie Johnson is the 2021 Bronko Nagurski Legends Award recipient

This offseason for Texas football has been focused on the arrival of new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, eight former Longhorns preparing for the 2021 NFL draft, recruiting and spring practices.

On Tuesday, a legend of the past joined the party and had his name further enshrined among Texas lore.

Former defensive back Johnnie Johnson, the dad to former Texas wide receiver Collin Johnson, was named the 2021 Bronko Nagurski Legends Award recipient.

Johnson played at Texas from 1976 to 1979. He recorded 13 career interceptions and was a three-time All-Southwest Conference player and a two-time consensus All-American (1978-1979).

He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams with the No. 17 overall pick in the 1980 NFL draft. He spent nine seasons with the Rams where he was a first-team All-Pro in 1983 before spending his final season with the Seattle Seahawks in 1989.

He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Johnson joins a prestigious list of winners, including Jack Youngblood, Randy White and Alan Page, to go along with his already memorable legacy.
