Returning as Dan Fielding in the new Night Court series was not without its "sadness," though John Larroquette has come to appreciate his fellow co-stars in the revival.

Now in its second season on NBC, the Night Court revival brought back John Larroquette as Dan Fielding, and the actor is the only original star to return as a series regular for the new show. Several of Larroquette's former cast members of the original series have also since passed away. Per Deadline, Larroquette addressed how this all felt when he first came on board the revival series, recalling how sad he was at the start that so many of his old friends were not there with him for the moment. While the actor admitted that he still sometimes feels nostalgic for the original show and its cast, he shared how Melissa Rauch and the other members of his new Night Court family have helped make the experience of his return "sweeter and sweeter."

CBR has a sneak peek at Lacretta showing off her singing skills in the next episode of Night Court, "Broadway Danny Gurgs."

“As we all know, out of all of the originally cast, I am literally the only one left on the door like Leo [DiCaprio] in Titanic, wondering if I would make it," Larroquette explained. "There was some sadness involved. But the aliveness of these people around me made it bittersweet and it became sweeter and sweeter. The heart of the show is in their hands. Melissa [Rauch] is running this boat well. I became sort of pleased with coming back. Still, sometimes, I am reminiscent. So much of my career was buoyed by this show.”

John Larroqutte Doesn't See Live Audience Tapings Ending Anytime Soon

John Larroquette also commented on the status of comedy shows filmed in front of a live studio audience. While show business is constantly changing, the Night Court vet said he feels confident that this trend will continue for the foreseeable future. In fact, he says he's observed a "renaissance" for this format, going on to share how performing in front of a live audience always adds something so much more to any comedy show that it wouldn't be getting otherwise.

“It seems like it’s having a bid of a renaissance, the intimacy of four cameras, knowing that it’s a little play,” Larroquette shared. "I have a feeling that’s something that will always be desired. Being in front of an audience can’t be beat. Most of my comedy has been four camera, and I’ve said this before. Some of the best comedy that’s ever come out of my world, my brain, was waiting for you to stop laughing. You don’t wait for a laugh with one camera. But you do with a live audience. That adds to the ability to be funny.”

Meanwhile, Larroquette will be joined by a fellow original Night Court star for another special appearance in Season 2. Marsha Warfield previously appeared as Roz in the end of the first season along with the start of the second, and it's been confirmed she'll be back for another special appearance in the Season 2 finale.

New episodes of Night Court air on NBC on Tuesdays with previous episodes available for streaming on Peacock.
