'The Purge' turns to full blown purgatory not by the Hands of God but by the hands of a John Doe (Jamie Bamber). On a side note, the great looking Australian actor looks like a cross between Christopher Reeve (RIP) and Michael J. Fox (one of the strongest men alive).

One of the most curious things about this film are the cameras. The cameras are deeply embedded in the narrative, enables it even. How does it happen that the characters in this film are compelled to record their every single action and make it available for potential broadcast to the world? One could point out that this implies the complicity of the audience into the spectacle of violence the film presents. If ever a film sent out a clear and unequivocal message that its OK to kill paedophiles, child murderers and rapists then John Doe: Vigilante is that film.

Lee Adama is J for Johndoetta in a relatively low budget retread of the whole vigilantism-in-civilized-soceity debate. Surprisingly, it turns out entertaining despite everything it has going against it. Part of that is because Jamie Bamber's training as Apollo has taught him how to do simmering rage well - which is great because there are more than a few actors in this who leave a bit to be desired. The other part of it is that I'm a mark for DC's Anarky and they are never going to make a movie for him so this will have to do. If it didn't cop out on the ending it might have gotten a half star more from me.
It offers an interesting approach on morality and crime albeit it occasionally comes off superficial and preachy. Still, it's quite an enjoyable film. The story is gripping enough, plus an unexpected twist in the end.
Cheap ass action film that is so forgettable you will wish you were watching anything else with action in it.

Didn't have any expectations going in and I was pleasantly surprised. The plot definitely felt like a mash up of other movies I've seen before, but it kept me engaged during a late night viewing.
Watchable, but disappointing. It’s neither a thought-provoking examination of the justice system, nor a solidly violent exploitation revenge feature.
A vigilante killer is brought to public trial. An interview covers his motives, deeds and influences on society; notably violence-minded, watchdog groups.
Decent production, reasonable acting, and some suspense. Starts promising, offering an occasional insight; but, overall, too simple-minded to be appreciable.
“I’m just a guy next door”, opines the titular character in JOHN DOE: VIGILANTE, played with a cocksure arrogance by the excellent Jamie Bamber. Although initial glances may shrug this off as another addition to the endless ‘Saaaaf Landon’ gangster brand, it is in fact a greatly impressive slice of Ozploitation.
Frustrated with a failing legal system that continues to allow violent criminals to go free, John Doe begins exacting justice the only way he knows how – by killing one criminal at a time. Soon he becomes a media sensation and inspires a group of copycat vigilantes, but who is the real John Doe – a pillar of justice or a cold-blooded murderer?
