Biography

John Anderson Truman (1851–1914) and Martha Ellen (Young) Truman (1852–1947) were the parents of Harry S. Truman. They chose the name Harry after his mother's brother, Harrison "Harry" Young (1846–1916). They chose "S" as his middle initial to please both of his grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young. The "S" did not stand for anything, a common practice among the Scots-Irish. A brother, John Vivian (1886–1965), was born soon after Harry, followed by one sister, Mary Jane (1889–1978).

John was a hard-working farmer. He was also a livestock dealer and a road overseer (supervisor).

Truman-677 and Truman-1 appear to represent the same person because: identical family and data, clear duplicate

While the Truman Presidential Library gives the parents listed on this profile and there is no reason to believe it inaccurate there is no documentation at that site or on this profile.

removing wife, he is currently shown as married to his mother.

Truman-5 and Truman-1 do not represent the same person because: Father and son of the same name, birthdates are different, fathers are different

Truman-5 and Truman-1 appear to represent the same person because: Truman-5 has the same birth/death dates as his son John Anderson Truman-2. Dates/Locations on Truman-5 are the correct ones. Truman-5 and Truman-1 are both married to duplicate Mary Jane Holmes who must also be merged. This will fix Harry Truman's family tree, which was highlighted as profile of the day on May 8 2014. Thanks.
