Idiots that announce your winnings.

This happened to me twice on Sunday, both times at the Bellagio. I like to play slot games with the volume down and away from crowds so I can just play in peace and win in silence. Twice at different machines in different areas I hit a pretty decent bonus and different jackasses see it and decide to scream out loud about how much I’m winning and then within minutes I have a crowd around me recording with their phones. I can’t stand when people hover and watch me play. Some stand way to close or stand next to you and light up a cigarette with smoke blowing in your direction. I always have to get up and shoo them away. Rant over.

I do like standing back and quietly watching if someone triggers a feature when im passing by. But I would never engage with them or comment on how much they are winning or spending. It's more about seeing the feature play.

To each their own. Some of us like the excitement of being robbed on the way back to the car.

Some of us wish a motherfucker would. Holding someone up in Vegas is a pretty risky gamble.

Well doesn't that suck for you.

Feel so bad for this person. We should start a GoFundMe campaign

Quick…let’s gather some wood and build a fire for warmth.

I don’t even like people noticing/ commenting on how much I’m betting…

I like that about roulette, $5s? $25s $100s? Eyes on your own paper, Bud.

I’ve never played on a slot where I could bet 1000s. Not saying they don’t exist, but me? No

You must be fun at parties. Obviously I can just flat out not like people’s behavior, just like I said. People can stand really close to me, burp close to me, cough without covering their mouth, and I don’t like any of those, so maybe I also shouldn’t grocery shop in public because I’ve had all of those. Bottom line: I’m allowed to not like behavior I find to be rude.

Oh I certainly wouldn't record or anything, but if I walk by a machine and someone won a bonus or something I do give a little cheer and go "yay, congrats!" While I'm walking past.

Sorry if that ruins your day but most people smile or say something about how excited they are or even go for a high five.

I'm gonna keep doing it.

Yay congrats isn’t what OP is talking about. I’ve seen it. People make a big fucking ordeal and call over other people

u/sincityjerseygirl avatar

No one minds that. He's talking about people who hover n basically linger. I can't stand that either.

u/Elegant_Bluebird1283 avatar

Why would that ruin his day? Nothing you say in your comment even remotely resembles what OP is talking about

Fantastic username by the way.

The number of people who respond with "username checks out" whenever they disagree with me is mind numbingly high, but I'm still proud of the pun so 🤷🏻‍♀️

As you should be

The current trend of people filming their winnings is wierd.

Filming your own winnings I get. Filming someone else’s is creepy.

Last time someone won $250,000 on slots at MGM and screamed at the top of his lungs, I recorded. 🤷‍♂️

u/vegas84 avatar

Why?

Not very often you see someone win something that big I guess. I wouldn’t do it but I understand.

u/officerliger avatar

Screaming in a casino while a machine is going off is going to draw attention, it’s a different circumstance to what the OP is saying

So you’re a jackass. Thanks for letting us know.

Edit: Uh oh I’m getting downvoted by jackasses that think they have the right to record people winning lots of people, in an attempt to see those people get robbed.

I understand recording your own win but recording someone else's is definitely weird

When they post it to their social media accounts, it's no longer "someone else's win". They claim it was them. Same thing as stealing someone else's vacation photos and claiming they spent a week in Bali

Name one person on IG that does that

John Smith

Bow Wow 😂

Tom DeLuca Jr.

I use it for record keeping. I take a picture of every hand pay jackpot and then compare it to the total win loss statements at the end of the year.

Once a awhile I hit a really big jackpot and I just walk away after I confirm with the staff (it takes like an hour for them to pay you when it's over 30K). Random people will come by the machine to pose and take pictures and send it to their friends claiming they just hit. Like people who are on Instagram who take pictures with cars that's not theirs.

Right!? Don't they know, "except after C" smdh.

u/FOURNAANSTHATSINSANE avatar

Except in all those words that don't make any sense

The correct saying is “I before E except after C or when sounded as A as in neighbor and weigh.” Not that it always works.

I mean it’s possible that they’re trying to offset the house edge with digital content platform revenue (e.g. if payout is 95% and you play with a bank of $1000, you need to clear $50 from youtube/tiktok/etc to “play for free”).

“I WAS JUST ON THAT MACHINE IT WASNT PAYING ANYTHING!”

Why I intentionally do not win.

u/Wheres_Jay avatar

I told a blackjack dealer last week to not deal me anymore good cards, I didn't want to carry any money home with me. Tipped them a five for finally helping me with my problem. Lol

Me too. It's all about perspective and how you frame the situation.. Happy gaming!

Have you considered online casinos and just playing in your basement with the lights off?

u/Intrepid_Ad_3031 avatar

Seriously. Probably hit 60 bucks playing $0.40 per spin and thinks they are going to get mugged on the way to the car.

Casinos are very social public spaces. If you are that offput by interacting with other people, you should find a new hobby

I just think Vegas is one of the past places one should go if you have social anxiety and or fear of being filmed lol

You probably won’t have much luck getting them to stop filming. There’s cameras everywhere in the casino and as long as Bellagio doesn’t have a no recording rule, they can record whatever they want.

I am always playing solo and get the same idiots approaching me. I just keep my headphones in and if they try to talk to me, I say I just want to listen to my music and play, good luck. They usually just move right along.

When I’ve had enough of the smoke, I take the tram to Park and play in that slot room. The Park room is also always quieter than the Bellagio room.

I always thought you weren’t allowed to film in the gaming areas. Do any casinos have that rule?

That rule has been supremely relaxed since the smartphone came into play and hardly any casino cares if you are recording machines.

Only at tables is it enforced, but you can still get permission to film at a table. The only place it’s a no go is the roulette table, because there are devices that can influence the roulette wheel.

Thanks! I only do slots unless I’m with someone else who’s a baller 😂 never thought to film myself losing.

u/OccupyMyBallSack avatar

I’m new to table games. Been playing the stadium baccarat at Durango since it opened and just started sitting at an actual table.

I don’t plan on like scrolling reddit or filming while at the table but what’s the etiquette on reading/sending texts if you’re there for a while?

With baccarat, you don’t need to pay any attention to the game. The dealer just deals based on the rules of the game. You don’t need to make any decisions and aren’t going to be slowing down the game by checking your phone. There’s also going to be other players shouting monkey and ripping and peeling cards during play.

Etiquette is as long as there’s not a sign strictly prohibiting it, you can do it unless or until a pit boss or dealer requests that you stop. This is at least how I function when I’m at the casino, and I’ve never had a problem.

Always be polite to the pit boss and dealer. I’ve witnessed too many people be trespassed (banned) for talking back to a dealer / pit boss.

I used to fire at blackjack and whenever people would start to gather around the table I was playing, I would just stop until they left. It's really awkward and annoying.

u/its_me_butterfree avatar

You mean lose in silence?

u/drakanx avatar

go play in high limit, no one there gives a fuck about your bonuses.

answer: high limit room 😜

Excellent guerrilla ad for pinging slots at the Bellagio

Some people have no respect. I cringed reading your story. Just know some of us are still chill - if I walked by you'd get a head nod and maybe a "nice job" in passing.

u/dream_that_im_awake avatar

It's a shame not everyone is as cool as you.

More replies

I figure it's also a security issue, I don't need people following me back to my room or wherever... unfortunately that is part of playing in vegas I guess

Lighten up Francis.

I’m honestly surprised you can find a machine that’s away from crowds and peaceful in the bellagio. I love that hotel and the rooms, but the gambling floor is so crowded all the time.. I get overwhelmed, haha. But, congrats on the win! I wouldn’t want a crowd either.

HL room.

Same. I play with the volume at the lowest setting so people don’t know if I’m winning or losing.

Bitching about smoking while in Vegas is pretty stupid.

I would scowl at you since I lost and move on. Not there to celebrate anyone’s winnings except my own

Some people have never been to a casino. After working on one for three years and frequenting a few after that….I have literally never witnessed this.

Edit: I’ve seen some people gathering to watch someone in a bonus or whatever…but never once was there an “announcement” from a patron. Some casinos will announce hand pays over the PA…but I know that you’re allowed to opt out of that

Not to mention some people in Vegas are drunk. Shocking I realize ;)

More replies

I would like to have this problem.

As obnoxious as it might be for you, it is solid marketing for the casino. However, just be careful when you cash out, don’t get robbed on the way to your car.

I tell people at my gaming bar to go sit down and mind their own business. Alerting people to your wins could attract the wrong people. These jackasses are putting you in danger.

Not a problem if you don’t win. Think smarter not harder.

Think of it as a safety issue. C’mon guys, there are a lot of assholes here in Vegas who are just wandering and waiting for an opportunity. Use your head.

Go play at the 7-11 no one will bother you there

Somebody call the whaaaambulance

Imagine winning a bunch of money and then you get on Reddit to complain about how mad you are.

Maybe someday they’ll invent gambling that can be done from the privacy of your home. Perhaps online.

u/Dry-Preference-8733 avatar

I only win big when I'm past my limits. Ladies told my friends that I was throwing crumpled up hundreds... L7 looser. I need a friend to mug me when I'm on a heater.

u/OkDifference5636 avatar

Contact security if people are recording. Most places don’t let you record unless you have permission.

Just go play at the high roller table
