Science fiction disaster films are endlessly fun to watch. For some reason, people enjoy seeing stories about massive threats to our world. The top sci-fi disaster movies, like Armageddon and The Day After Tomorrow, became box office blockbusters by playing on fears of natural calamities and weather-related catastrophes. Modern-day special effects help these pictures achieve popularity, as they allow for very realistic depictions of destruction that suck viewers right in. A-list stars are often attracted to these projects. Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Affleck, and Hillary Swank are just three examples of actors who have appeared in them.
