In February 1381, the 16-year-old Vaiduta Butovtovich fled from Lithuania to the Prussian possession of the Teutonic Order , from where he moved to the court of Czech King Wenceslas IV of Luxembourg .
In Prague, Vaiduta received Catholic baptism and received a new name - Jan. Most likely, after baptism, he began to study at the university , probably at the faculty of theology . Perhaps he also took the priesthood.
Since 1389, Jan Vaiduta is mentioned in the sources as a bush (curator) of Krakow . It is believed that he received church posts in Krakow and Sandomierz with the support of his relative, King of Poland Vladislav Jagello . In 1401, Jan Wajduta became the second rector of the University of Krakow .
In the spring of 1402, Jan Wajduta passed away and was buried in the Krakow Cathedral.
