      B. C Great show for PBS/SKY etc. The characters are endearing, the villains are menacing, the plot
a little ridiculous but entertaining enough. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review Steve A Love this Show !! Season 1 was really good if you enjoy this gendre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Bubbe F I LOVED it. When it ended I was sad that it was over. The story was excellent and each character was fully developed. Although it was a historical fiction soap opera, and most of the characters, were figments of the writer's fertile, imagination, there was a lot to be learned about America's past interactions with the aboriginal people of the area. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Seems impressed with itself. acting is passable, but storyline, especially women's roles, is poor. appears as a prime-time soap. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely stunning. This script is brilliantly written. If you read the critical reviews these are more dependable than audience ratings. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Watching this as a US citizen and having grown up under an educational system that pretty much operates as if History started with Jamestown I could not suspend my disbelief at the creative liberties (or corners cut maybe) in terms of character dialogue, motivations, etc. The show seems to be making a valiant effort at imitating "girl power" & "feminism" in their storyline but ironically; without really putting any work into considering how the women at the time may have ACTUALLY attempted to subvert male dominance and sexism in the colony. Was not surprised to see that the only writing credit on IMDB went to one dude. The female dialogue of the show seemed to be someones best impression of what a strong woman sounds like and fails to understand why that isn't enough to make her more than 2-Dimensional. That said. Technical aspects of the show are beautiful. Make-up is beautiful, landscape is beautiful, camera framing and shots are spot on. I feel bad for the rest of the crew the writer didn't have as much heart in the project or the message of the show as the rest of them. Worth watching simply to marvel in awe that networks outside of lifetime in 2020 are still willing to throw $$$ at these thinly veiled gimmicky fluff pieces trying to pass off harlequin romance as a progressive and empowering storyline when theres sooooo many talented people with real POV trying to get discovered Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Euan Ferguson Guardian What hokum, yet what pretty hokum, Jamestown turns out to be... I'm just waiting for the emergence of some cheeky-toothed, doe-eyed beavers, quite possibly animated. For all that, it hits many highs. Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Sam Wollaston Guardian It's more fun than high culture or history lessons. An expensive soap, in other words. Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Gerard O'Donovan Daily Telegraph (UK) A little silly. But it was also gripping, and the cast's enthusiasm was so palpable it was impossible to resist. Rated: 3/5 Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Alex Behan Stuff.co.nz It's racy and romantic - everyone's a little bit cleaner than is probably historically accurate - but timeless themes like greed, betrayal and lust provide eternal fuel for the narrative fire. Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Louis Wise Sunday Times (UK) A bit hokey, then, but the dramatic ground is fertile: gold, tobacco and sorcery are yet to come fully into play. Apr 15, 2019 Full Review Henry Northmore The List Despite the attention to period detail, Jamestown is less captivating than its intriguing premise.
