Lundstram hails Rangers teammate Sands amid 'difficult' start at Ibrox

John Lundstram has hailed Rangers newcomer, James Sands, despite a ‘difficult’ Ibrox start.

Sands arrived in Glasgow on an 18-month loan deal which gives the Gers an exclusive option to buy next year.

The American, 21, has struggled to hit the ground running since joining from New York City with the move being completed with the MLS over and Sands not playing regular football.

Speaking ahead of the Bears clash with Stirling Albion, Lundstram said: “It can be difficult to come in without a run of games but when the opportunity arrives you have to be ready to impress.

“James (Sands) has been good in training and is a top lad also, he will add a lot to our squad.”

Time will tell

Rangers need to be patient with their new youngster. As stated, he has come in under ‘difficult’ circumstances which will inevitably make it harder for him to adapt to British football.

It might be a while before his hard work pays off on the pitch but to hear positive things from within the dressing room is a good sign already.

The Gers have the luxury of patience with the American with the excellent deal they were able to negotiate with New York City.

Rangers have a great chance to let Sands settle in for the remainder of the season and truly assess his worth throughout the entirety of the next campaign and if his career doesn’t take off at Ibrox, he can simply return stateside as if it never happened.

His versatility will prove useful for Giovanni van Bronckhorst with New Yorker able to play midfield, centre back and right back.

Of course, they have to pay his wages, but this is essentially a free hit for the Bears.

In other Gers news, Gio Van Bronckhorst says Rangers are ‘fully prepared’ for more January business.
