James, 35, the younger brother of the Princess of Wales, 41, and Pippa Middleton, 39, wed his French partner Alizee Thevenet in an intimate ceremony in the picturesque Côte d'Azur village of Bormes-les-Mimosas in September 2021. They shared a selection of photos shortly after the event, revealing the bucolic charm of the location, the role played by one of their beloved dogs and the ultra-cool Citroën 2CV they drove to their beachside reception at Café Léoube.

Now, James has offered a fresh look at the evening festivities. The photo shows a radiant Carole Middleton beaming at the camera, dressed in a vibrant V-neck crochet dress by Temperley London. James stands behind with his arms wrapped around his mother. His new wedding ring is at the forefront of the frame, suggesting, perhaps, the particular pride of a newlywed. ‘You make my world go round,’ he wrote in the caption. ‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and especially to this one.’

Both James and Alizee enjoy a close relationship with the Middletons. They lived with his parents at their home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, during lockdown and Alizee even chose to wear Carole’s bridal gown on her own wedding day. ‘While talking about dresses with Carole and sharing ideas during lockdown for inspiration, I tried on her wedding dress and fell in love with it,’ Alizee previously told Hello!. ‘It fitted me perfectly and was exactly what I wanted. It always troubled me that wedding dresses are only worn once so it was amazing to give such a beautiful dress a second lease of life.’

James revealed that he and Alizee had been forced to reschedule their nuptials twice in 2020, due to the pandemic, after becoming engaged in September 2019. A year after their engagement, he wrote on Instagram: ‘It’s a year since I asked Alizee to marry me… what a year it's been! Two homes, lockdown, two attempts at a wedding, a litter of [dog emoji], launching of new company @ella.co, a beard shave and much more but the best part is that I get to share it with you @alizeethevenet and I can't wait to take on whatever the future holds for us.’

According to the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden, James Middleton has secured planning permission to make significant changes to their Grade II-listed farmhouse which the couple bought in 2021 for £1.45 million shortly after their south of France wedding.

Their 16th century treasure of a Grade II-listed house will be souped up with an oak-framed extension, re-vamped ground floor and a new terrace area and herb garden. The driveway will be reconfigured and sealed off from the public road by electrically operated gates.
