Newcastle United backed to accept Jamaal Lascelles offer after source’s £10m reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Jamaal Lascelles’ future lies away from Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Lascelles will struggle for a place in the Newcastle starting lineup.

On 4 November, sources told this site that the Magpies will listen to offers for the 28-year-old as they continue to transform their squad.

Eddie Howe is an admirer of the captain’s attitude and leadership and regards him as important back-up to current central defenders Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn.

Botman, 22, has been impressing Howe since his arrival from Lille in the summer and has struck up a solid partnership with 30-year-old Schar, keeping Lascelles out of the XI.

However, Lascelles would have to push for a move in January and it could require a £10million offer to facilitate.

The defender’s current contract at St James’ Park is set to expire in 2024.

Hutton suggested Lascelles may now be surplus to requirements at the north-east giants.

You need to think that his future is probably going to lie elsewhere,” he told Football Insider.

He did do a good job, coming in and steadying the ship. They went through a different form where they were struggling, especially defensively. He has brought in reinforcements and players like Lascelles have had to take a back seat.

It is going to be really difficult for them to break back into that team. You look at the likes of Botman who are reaching the next level. Probably the future of the likes of Lascelles would lie somewhere else.”

In other news, a pundit has tipped Newcastle United to win Joao Pedro race thanks to ‘amazing’ advantage.
