Nike continued its tradition of celebrating Jackie Robinson Day with a new pair of sneakers honoring MLB's trailblazer.
On Monday morning, Nike released the Air Max 1 '86 for sale. They already sold out by the afternoon.
The white and navy shoes feature a No. 42 patch in the shape of a baseball diamond above the laces. The inside soles are also inscribed with a tribute to the former Los Angeles Dodgers legend, who broke baseball's color barrier on April 15, 1947.
"Inspired by his team uniform, it combines a perforated Midnight Navy upper with a Sail mudguard and gum sole," the Nike site writes. "And for the finishing touch, shiny Metallic Gold accents celebrate the legend of #42—a courageous cultural icon who paved the way for so many after him."
Nike began its annual Jackie Robinson shoe launch when releasing the Dunk Low in 2022. The Dodger Blue-colored footwear commemorated the 75th anniversary of his monumental debut.
A year later, they unveiled the Air Force 1 Low.
All MLB players will wear the universally retired No. 42 on Monday to celebrate Robinson's impact on the game and society. Those lucky enough to get their hands on the high-demand shoes could also show off the special Nike apparel before switching to cleats on the diamond.
