      Critics Consensus

Never quite as funny as it wants to be, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa still offers viewers the timeless pleasures of seeing an old man get his privates stuck in a vending machine.

Laila O How can this movie get 60% of tomatoes?! This movie is the most hilarious thing I watched!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Joshua W Not a big fan of the JackAss films, but I feel this movie did a COMPLETELY BRILLIANT job of integrating the pranks into a storyline. And Jackson Nicoll is completely brilliant for pulling off those hilarious scenes without dropping character. So when a comedy is made, the point is not to produce a film of meaning. The point is to maximize the humor for hearty belly laughing. And Bad Grandpa did an ingenious job of it. This film makes my very short list of greatest pure comedies of the 21st century. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Jake 2 Jackass comes to the rescue with an original storyline film. I remember seeing this for the first time in theaters and was captivated by the genuine commodore brought on by this endearing story. Bad Grandpa reminds audiences that a simple story can be the best kind of story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Brandon B Almost too much for me to even watch. Unbelievably funny! Wesley Morris Grantland The wrongs pile up, and there's a clear object of satire. That feels new for the Jackass experience: a target that isn't a crotch. I'd like to see Irv try to strike again with braver gags. Dec 10, 2013 Full Review J. R. Jones Chicago Reader Onlookers occasionally glance into the camera, a pretty good sign that people are hip to these prankster movies now and just play along. Nov 7, 2013 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Secondhand gags, third-rate execution, fourth-rate results. Rated: 1/5 Oct 28, 2013 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Plenty of things want to be funny, but Bad Grandpa bites off more than its dentures can chew this time around. Rated: 0/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Amidst all the chaos and naughtiness, there's an unabashed celebration of the human spirit here that left me simultaneously laughing and crying. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 12, 2020 Full Review Allen Almachar The MacGuffin You can laugh at poop and fart jokes for only so long; sooner or later all the pooping and farting will start to stink.
