This was the first time in the movie that we saw Jason. He screeched to a halt in his car and came out smoking. This was highly disrespectful, and when his mother informed him he was late, he replied, "For what?" He wouldn't be praying or crying about his grandfather's death, because at the time, Jason didn't care about Red Stevens.

Emily was the little girl in this movie played by Abigail Breslin. She was an outspoken little girl with only one parent. Her mother's name was Alexia, and Jason began to date Alexia, with a little help from Emily of course. Emily was a deep girl who thought about things like death and God. She told Jason that every color on a butterfly's wing was painted by the hand of God himself.

Jason was extremely shallow at the beginning of the film. He only cared about himself and having fun. He was exactly like the other Stevens in his family. Unfortunately, he was the only one who had a chance to change. As he found out later, even though his family was extremely wealthy, they were not truly rich.

They found the idea of giving thanks at Thanksgiving truly hilarious, which just showed how shallow these people truly were. Jason walked out on dinner with his family.

Jason received his first gift after he flew to Texas, met Gus and worked on his ranch. Jason had only flown out to Texas to get his gift, and he did not realize that hard work was actually beneficial. Before setting up Gus's fence, Jason had never worked a day in his entire life. Jason received the gift of work that month.

Caitlin, as the gold-digging girl she was, walked out on Jason when he asked her to pay for the meals. The idea of her working off a meal in the kitchen was ridiculous! Jason's credit cards were declined, which was part of Red's plan to help Jason learn the value of money.

Ever since he was born, money had been just like air to Jason, he didn't need to work for it, it was always there. When Jason got back on his feet and finally got a cheque from Red, Caitlin came back to Jason because he had money again. Thankfully he didn't take her back, he stayed with Alexia!

Jason received the gift of laughter when he was in Ecuador, with the people his father had once been with. The gift of gratitude came when Alexia thanked Jason for paying her back-rent, and the gift of family was given more with Alexia and Emily than the Stevens. Grace was never a part of the twelve gifts Jason was to receive.

Jason was caught by the drug lords of the mountains in Ecuador, when he went to see the location where his father had died. He was held hostage for many weeks, but he was let out shortly on Christmas Day, along with the other prisoners, to celebrate. Jason didn't celebrate, he broke down crying.

The captors threw him back in his cage, and he realized he was to be killed the next day. Fortunately he escaped. He went back to America and had a belated Christmas with Alexia, Emily, and Gus.

Emily was quite the outspoken little girl, but she could make you laugh! She confirmed that Jason was officially the slowest person she had ever met, and that guys were clueless. She called Jason pathetic in the park when he said things were complicated. She never called him idiotic in the movie; although she and her mother did agree Jason was a little weird.

Answer: Leukemia

Unfortunately, little Emily had leukemia. Emily had gotten a bone marrow transplant, but her body had begun to reject it. At one point the doctor informed Alexia that chemotherapy was not going to be enough to keep Emily alive, she needed another transplant as well. Emily lived in the hospital, and sadly ended up dying there. Jason founded a new state of the art hospital for families with sick children, and he named it Emily's Home.

Answer: Yes, Jason said he loved Red.

When Jason was watching Red's final message, Red told Jason he loved him, and Jason told Red he loved him also. Jason found the letters Red had meant to give him, and he finally stopped blaming Red for his father's death. Jason and Red could not have talked out their problems, Red was dead; but Jason finally gave up the grudge he had been holding against his grandfather.
