Chad Valley

Chad Valley is a British toy company founded in the early 19th century.

Chad Valley was known as one of the UK’s leading toy companies throughout most of the 20th century, producing toys such as teddy bears, tin-plate toys and jigsaw puzzles. They would produce Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs dolls commissioned by Walt Disney himself, and receive a royal warrant from Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later the Queen Mother. The 1970s would see economic struggles, as Chad Valley would downsize from seven factories to two and later be sold to Palitoy in 1978.

The company was purchased by British retailer Woolworths in 1988, and would be sold in their stores up until their closure in early 2009. The Chad Valley brand was then sold to Home Retail Group, then-owners of British retailer Argos, which would itself be purchased by British supermarket Sainsbury’s in 2016. As of 2024 Chad Valley products are sold at both Argos and Sainsbury’s stores in the UK.

Some products marketed under the Chad Valley brand are produced by other companies, namely DesignaFriend which is produced by Kid Kreations. These products will be included on both Chad Valley and their manufacturer’s pages.
