Regional planning[edit]

In the last paragraph, "fragmented" and "coalesce" seem borderline NPOV. I suggest "independent" and "join". Thoughts? 3idiot 14:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Actually, that's why I floated it for discussion. I wanted some other thoughts. I'm admittedly hypersensitive to the issue living in one of the donut counties and favoring smaller, more local government over larger, more abstracted government.
I get a "disorganized" and "inefficient" connotation from "fragmented". I get a "finally, they'll see the light" connotation from "coalesce". But if it's just me, that's a good thing.
I'll make no changes and await/encourage discussion.

Considering none of the statements are referenced or dated, who knows what any of it "means" (not me). I don't even know what regional planning actions – real, proposed or imagined – it's talking about.

WP:BE BOLD it is. Kinda. I edited the one that rubbed me the most and left the one that I can't decide on a good replacement for. I also vow to do more work on this to help clarify and give meaning to this article in the near future. Seems to me that as it stands, Rfrisbie is right...who cares? But it is actually an interesting topic in local politics, so...
Oh, and I'm gonna sick my lawyers on you for not liking Carmel. (I just work there.) Home is Fairland, Indiana.

Nine-County Region → Indianapolis Metro Area — Growing up near Indianapolis, I don't recall hearing "Nine-County Region" being used to describe the area. Google does not help either, because the first page lists nine-county regions in Colorado, Illinois, California, Texas, North Carolina, and New York; but, nothing from Indiana. A page on Indiana's web site ([1]) calls the area "Indianapolis Metro Area", which is also a) more familiar to my ears, and more importantly b) much much less likely to cause confusion with any other areas.

I would actually like to see this moved to Central Indiana so it would not get confused with Indianapolis-Carmel, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. There are similar articles for regions in Indiana (Northwest Indiana, Southern Indiana, Northwest Indiana, etc) HoosierStateTalk 14:58, 4 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    • Indianapolis Metropolitan Area is fine as well. Central Indiana should include the entire band of the state between Illinois and Ohio (Terre Haute to Richmond), which is different from what this article currently contains. Redirecting Indianapolis Metropolitan Area to the MSA is an option, but because the census bureau keeps updating the definition, and AFAIK the area which people refer to as the metro/metropolitan area has been fairly consistent over the years, it makes marginal sense to keep the two articles separate.   • A couple of observations. First, there are no citations by which to verify the contents of the articles, or even whether such usage is in fact common. Second, assuming that such citations can be provided, is there enough distinctive content to warrant a separate article? I'd be inclined to merge this as a section within Indianapolis-Carmel, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area as a distinctive variant.older ≠ wiser 02:11, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Upon search of GoogleBooks, GoogleScholar, etc., I find no real evidence that this usage is distinctive enough to warrant a separate article. I'd just include it as a footnote under Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. I suspect the main reason the usage persists is that there is a neat array of nine counties consisting of Indy itself and the eight "donut" counties; so it's always a tempting way of saying "Indianapolis and the contingent counties that surround it"! There needs to be more photos on this page. For example, in the sports section photos of Lucas Oil Stadium or BankerLife Fieldhouse would be nice. Orphaned references in Indianapolis metropolitan area[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Indianapolis metropolitan area's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
