A cinematic, climactic. and beautiful film, as well as transporting you to the wild west with its phenomenal soundtrack which is just dang incredible
This movie is just so damn good. The incredible wild west vibe of it all (obviously) and the just perfect soundtrack. It is so astoundingly fitting, as well as being just damn iconic. The final scenes are some of the best in any movie ever, but the leadup to it is almost as good. Just perfect, absolutely perfect.Published
Perhaps the first "great" movie I ever got into to.
Watching it yet again when the 4k version became available was a revelation.
Just so damn good.
The plot is meandering enough that we get to see so many interesting scenarios.
The characters are all great.
The climax is of course wonderful.
The score is still my favourite of any movie.
Just a wonderful experience overall.

"You See In This World There's Two Kinds Of People, My Friend - Those With Loaded Guns, And Those Who Dig. You Dig."
The first half felt pretty slow, I get it’s important to build up the story, but it did make me space out a lot. The second half was pretty good though, from Tuco and Blondie teaming up against Angel Eyes to the end of the movie it stays decently interesting (if I ignore the part with the Yankee army).
There’s also some randomly deep parts like Tuco and his brother and the Yankee general getting hurt that make me wonder why it’s even in the film. They’re not necessarily bad, although I can’t say I was really interested in either moments fully. They build the characters, but don’t really stand out to me. Especially since Tuco isn’t really likable for a good portion of this movie, and debatably isn’t for any of it. Not that I have a problem with the actor, he did a nice job. It’s more that Tuco’s character simply isn’t very sympathetic to me.
On the topic of Tuco, I don’t like how much screen time he has in this film. He easily the least interesting of the three protagonists and also the person who we see of the most. To reiterate, the actor did a good job with the character. It’s simply a matter of fact that I straight up don’t care for Tuco. Which makes the ending of the movie very satisfying to me, but I will talk more about that later on.
I get why people love Clint Eastwood though, for every second he is in this movie he always resonates a sense of coolness to him that has a lot of charm. From the way he dresses to the way he speaks, it’s quickly frankly hard not to enjoy his performance even if he only speaks a couple of words with the lines he has.
The soundtrack is very iconic for a good reason though, it’s well made and instantly recognizable. Examples like the music in the opening credits, Blondie’s appearance sound (which ends up being hilarious to me at times), and when they find the graveyard.
Also some of these dubs are obviously completely different people from the actual actor and it’s funny in moments like the Yankee general. He sounds like somebody’s old white grandfather even though the actor obviously isn’t white at all. Speaking of Yankees, this movie surprised me with how much it includes the civil war for a western movie. I expected something more Django Unchained to be honest. I get that it’s important for the story and the times, but a lot of the most boring moments for me are the ones about the Yankees and Confederates.
I will give this movie one big positive though, and that’s of course the ending. The build up for is phenomenal, once again thanks to the amazing soundtrack. The graveyard is a beautiful setting for it to go down, on top of the fact it makes sense because obviously only one of them is going to make it out alive (literally shown when Angel Eyes falls into his grave after being shot). We then get to Tuco, who Blondie fucks over hard, but rightfully so after he almost died from dehydration because of Tuco. The amount of tricks Blondie has up his sleeves really makes you wonder what will happen next just within the last few minutes of the film. The noose being a callback from the beginning of the movie, so we basically end where we started off in a cool way. It’s a messed up ending, but a deserved one in my eyes. It may leave a sour taste in your mouth, but you can’t deny how well made the last scene is.
Overall, this movie was just a sludge to get through because of the length. I don’t rewatch movies much in general, but I'll probably never rewatch it simply because of its length. I would’ve enjoyed it probably 2x more if simply an hour was taken out from it or so. I wish I liked this movie more than I do, but I simply don’t. There’s a lot of greatness and there is a lot of boringness. This should probably be rated lower, but I loved Clint Eastwood in this too much to do that. Simply put, it’s a rocky experience, but feels rewarding because of how it ends.
8.5/10.

Amazing film very entertaining some points feels like there there just for the 3h lengh and to be more epic but other than that the music is amazing all thoughout the editing is great and for a 3h movie it goes very well up untill the last hour were we get the worst and best part of the filmPublished
The only problem I see with watching good movies is that you got to keep switching favorites. There's just too many. Certainly this movie is up there. And though I've yet to see the next Western Leone would do (C'era una volta il West [Once Upon a Time in the West], which is supposed to be just as good as this one) I can defiantly call this one the best Western to ever be made. It's really got everything you need and I don't think you can go wrong.
A big part goes to the three lead men. Besides just giving us an epic Western, Leone decides to throw some morality in there. Despite being named a trait, all three characters shift through all three of the named, doing good, bad, and some ugliness. They shift through these three, backstabbing, double crossing, assisting, and killing to get to their destination. And Eli Wallach is funny, Clint Eastwood is mesmerizing as he smokes cigars and squints, and Lee Van Cleef is badass as always.
Everyone in this film just puts all they have into it. And, of course, hats off to Morricone for doing what he does best.

The final film of the Dollars trilogy is yet again another amazing watch for me. Rather than continuing with the more streamlined, tightly focused nature of the previous 2 films, The Good The Bad and the Ugly feels much more like a sprawling epic that ends up covering an insane amount of ground in its runtime. The interesting thing about the way this story is presented however, is the way that it never actually feels that there are that many moving pieces in place, instead feeling more akin to having an episodic structure, with plot points coming and going, the main connecting element between them all being the developing interactions between the 3 main characters. Yet again, Leone is able to craft a cast of characters that are mysterious but each have just enough personality and depth for them to feel interesting in the way they react to the situations they're put in, and the way elements of their characters will get regularly fleshed out and developed through these moments, essentially being the definition of the "show don't tell" approach. This movie just radiates an incredible sense of coolness which is further elevated by the cinematography providing an amazing sense of scale and atmosphere, combined with the absolutely phenomenal soundtrack by Morricone yet again. I think I prefer For a Few Dollars More to this one by a bit, but it's undeniable to me that both films are really great and also that the last half hour of this, particularly the shootout, is a cinematic masterpiece.

This Sergio Leone spaghetti western classic didn’t impress me.
I thought parts of it were well shot, well crafted, funny, and dramatic, but big chunks of it were a little boring. It really comes together in the final act though, and the cinematography and characters are something to see.
Also, that Ennio Morricone score is amazing!

Despite being assholes, I liked Tuco, Blondie, and Angel Eyes. And the finale is iconic beyond belief.
But I felt like everything else was just "decent."
