Bulut issues hands-off warning over Conte

Erol Bulut has heaped praise on Cardiff's surprise package at the end of this season, Raheem Conte.

Conte has been one of a number of academy kids to come into the first-team fold in recent weeks and he's really taken his chance, producing two unfazed performances against Southampton and Middlesbrough.

He has been playing out of position, too, at right-back, when he is typically a winger. His speed, something which Cardiff do not have an abundance of, has particularly excited fans.

It was thought that the 21-year-old's contract was up in the summer, but manager Bulut revealed he has penned new terms – warning rival clubs to stay away from him in the summer.

"We have renewed the contract, so nobody look at him!" Bulut laughed. "He is normally a winger. We used him last week and this week as a right-back and he did well. He is a quick player, use both feet and this is very important.

"Let's see, maybe we also have to use him as a winger to see what he can give us in that position."

Diedhiou: Maybe I'll be here next season

Striker Famara Diedhiou has teased a possible return to Cardiff City next season.

The forward was signed on loan from Spanish club Granada and has netted twice in 15 outings for the Bluebirds. And despite struggling in front of goal for the most part, the Senegal international says he has enjoyed his time in south Wales – and might even return.

"They are all great lads here and it's a strong group. The gaffer also, I know him from Turkey and he never gives up," Diedhiou said. "Sometimes we lose, sometimes we win, but we never give up. The most important thing is to finish strong.

"I've enjoyed my time here in Cardiff. It's a nice place to live, the people are very helpful, especially the guys who work in the club.

"I've had a lot of fun spending time here. You never know – maybe I will be here next season! I think it is good for me, for the gaffer, for the players and for the fans to have a good end to the season and be ready for next season."

It's been very up and down for Diedhiou during his time with the club. He started poorly but did improve as the season ticked towards the end, scoring a crucial goal in the 2-1 comeback win over Southampton.

"My two favourite moments were the wins against Ipswich and Southampton," he added. "Because they showed just how good we are.

"It showed that we are strong at the end of games. Those two teams are fighting for promotion, we beat them in the last seconds and I enjoyed both of them. Playing in front of the fans, how they shout and scream when we score, it's amazing. Celebrating in front of them, it's perfect."

Ledley: You have to give the manager more time

Former Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley believes the club must give the manager more time, but believes there is room for improvement.

Cardiff have given the green light to start contract talks with Erol Bulut, which you can read more about here, amid prolonged uncertainty over who will be in charge next season. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Speaking on Rhodri Giggs on Football, Ledley said: "I think it's a lot better than the previous three seasons. But it's a work-in-progress still.

"The manager at the moment, you have to give him time, another full season. I think there is still a lot more from this team. I think there's different areas they need to improve on.

"But it's definitely progress. It's all up in the air at the moment, whether he stays or whether he goes. It's all down to Cardiff's level and whether they want to push on and go for promotion and get a new manager or just work the process with Erol at the moment."
