 RELEASE DATE : MARCH 31ST, 2017

THE TWO PROTO-PUNK ICONS TURN IN FOUR ENGAGING ACOUSTIC REWORKINGS OF TRACKS FROM BOTH THE STOOGES' RAW POWER AND IGGY POP & JAMES WILLIAMSON'S KILL CITY

Fans of The Stooges and Radio Birdman are in for a real treat this spring as guitarist James Williamson and singer/guitarist Deniz Tek have teamed up for a new spin on four classic Williamson compositions from the early/mid '70s. The two proto-punk icons have unplugged their amps for drastic, yet no less gratifying reworkings of two numbers from Iggy & The Stooges’ seminal Raw Power album (“I Need Somebody” and “Penetration”) as well as two tracks from Pop & Williamson’s often-unsung masterpiece Kill City (“Night Theme” and “No Sense of Crime”). These songs were orginally composed by Pop & Williamson, with the exception of "Night Theme" which was penned by Williamson and Scott Thurston

PREMIERE: James Williamson and Lisa Kekaula — "Never Far From Where the Wild Things Are"
Iggy Pop isn't the only member of the Stooges with a busy 2016. Guitarist James Williamson joined forces with Lisa Kekaula and will be releasing three singles this year, but not in the fashion you'd expect. Known for his explosive riffs, Williamson shows that can he still rock on the B-side from one those singles in "Never Far From Where the Wild Things Are." The song shows how the guitarist, when combined with Kekaula, can still have manical energy, even at this point in his career. However, unlike his hard rockin' early days, this song is a bit different in how it came to fruition.

THE STOOGES' GUITAR LEGEND'S NEW SOLO ALBUM "RE-LICKED" OUT OCTOBER 29TH ON VINYL, CD & DIGITAL!

ALONG WITH THE LIVE TOURING VERSION OF THE STOOGES, JAMES IS JOINED ON "RE-LICKED" BY A NUMBER OF GREAT GUEST VOCALISTS RE-INTERPRETING LESSER-KNOWN STOOGES RARITIES

While on a break from touring this year, the members of the live touring version of The Stooges (James Williamson, Steve Mackay, Mike Watt & drummer Toby Dammit) got together and recorded songs that were originally penned by Iggy Pop and James Williamson in 1973/74 as the follow-up to their quintessential album Raw Power. While a number of these tracks have found their way onto inferior-sounding bootlegs and unofficial releases over the years, they were never properly recorded since the band didn’t have a record deal at the time.

Williamson always wanted to revisit these songs and has done so with a powerhouse lineup of musicians and singers who don’t disappoint on his forthcoming solo album entitled Re-Licked.

The vinyl & CD versions of this album will also feature a deluxe package including an in-depth 24-page booklet with liner notes & photos, as well as a fascinating ‘making-of’ Re-Licked documentary on DVD, giving the viewer a fly-on-the-wall experience of being in the studio with all of these great musicians. The mp3 version of the album will also include this deluxe package in digital format.

Re-Licked will be available worldwide Oct. 29, 2014 on CD, vinyl & digital formats worldwide via Leopard Lady Records.

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE ALREADY SAYING ABOUT RE-LICKED:

"An avalanche of raw riffs… and Williamson playing white-knuckled leads like he absolutely refuses to let the Stooges’ music go gentle into that good night." - PREMIER GUITAR

“Unsurprisingly brilliant.” - NME

"'I Gotta Right,' the second single from Re-Licked, is a manic, guitar-blazing rocker featuring belter Lisa Kekaula of The Bellrays." - USA TODAY

"… hard-charging, fast-paced punk" - EXCLAIM!

"... a karmic correction" - Author/journalist HARVEY KUBERNIK

“James Williamson is on a mission. Revitalized after a reunion with The Stooges and further stoked by interest in his career he has been working hard on keeping The Stooges beating heart alive. Iggy may be having a break from this thing called rock and roll but James is having none of it. The results... a new album of re-recorded songs from the catalogue of Iggy Pop and James Williamson. Songs that never made it into the studio, some known from live shows, some not. Re-Licked is kicking itself out of the garage with an intent to seek and destroy all naysayers, and along for the ride are some very special guest stars.” – ARTROCKER

“... gruff and propulsive” - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“Properly recorded and no longer mired in sub-bootleg mire, the songs do indeed shine through.” - BUCKETFULL OF BRAINS

MESSAGE FROM JAMES WILLIAMSON:

To all my friends.

Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts around the passing of our friend and bandmate Scott Asheton last night. My only comfort is that he reached out to me in an email about a week or two ago saying that he was thinking of me and the good times we had together and that he would like to make some music with me. I responded but he never got back to me again. I guess that was his way of saying goodbye for now….

Anyway, my heart goes out to his immediate family Liz, Leanna Raquel Asheton and Kathleen Asheton. He was one of the good guys and a friend of mine.

Iggy Pop: James Williamson is a 'brutal' guitarist
15 May 2013 contactmusic.com

Iggy Pop describes James Williamson as a ''brutal'' guitarist.

The Stooges frontman notices distinctive differences between his bandmate's instrumental skills compared to original guitar player RON ASHETON, who passed away in 2009, and feels there is more ''control'' in James' performances - unlike the late rocker's ''intuitive'' approach.

He said: ''With early Stooges, half of Ron's contribution was intuitive in that he just let the guitar and the amp talk in the spirit of [Brison] Gysin and [William] Burroughs' cut-ups.

''He was a volume player, but didn't control it like Blue Cheer or Ted Nugent. He found some beautiful places to go. James was a very controlled, brutal player

''Later in life, Ron became a terrific live player, because he never stopped playing, but he also became a lot more like everybody else.

''Williamson had 37 years off so he still has a lot to say - and he's articulate about what he wants to do. My contribution to this record is mostly in melodies.''

The band have recently released their new album 'Ready To Die' and the final song on the record, titled 'The Departed', makes references to their journey over the years as well as reminiscing about former members they have lost.

Iggy, 67, added to Mojo magazine: ''[It wasn't written] so much Ron as for a group of people. In Ann Arbor and Detroit in the late 60s, early 70s, some of us were more 'us' than others, with some dying a little on the young side.

''This was the first new piece James sent me after we started touring as Iggy & The Stooges again, and it was a giant pain-in-the-ass bitch m**********r epic to do! It started out as an instrumental, just James on dobro, and he called it 'Ron's Tune'.

''I didn't wanna write a personal song, so it's more like, 'The party's over,' or, 'It's getting late'.''

On the first episode of Guitar Moves, Matt Sweeney heads to Berkeley, CA to meet the Stooges' James Williamson. He learns about the history of the Stooges, the "Nashville Tuning," and how to achieve the bone-crushing guitar tone on "Search & Destroy." May 13 2013

Iggy Pop - Super-human Iggy Pop
April 30 2013 contactmusic.com

Iggy Pop is ''almost super-human'' according to his bandmate James WIlliamson, who is impressed by the performance the singer gives on a nightly basis. Iggy Pop is ''almost super-human''The punk rock singe ris still giving his all at every performance, despite being 66, and astounds even his own band, The Stooges, with his energy.

Guitarist James Williamson told FasterLouder.com.au: ''He is almost super-human. This will be about the 10th year that I've worked with him personally, on stage that is.

''I think the similarity between then and now is that he will do anything to go over with an audience, anything. He can't stand it if he's not getting to the audience. There is some power within him that draws on the energy of the audience, so if you have a better audience you get a better show.

''I don't know any human being who I've ever met who is willing to do what he does.''

Iggy and The Stooges have just released a new album, 'Ready to Die', and James - who is also joined in the band by Scott Asheton, Steve Mackay and Mike Watt - found it interesting to go back into the studio with Iggy, as he hadn't worked with him on a studio album since the 70s.

He added: ''I wasn't sure we could write anymore, you know it's been a long time. But we sat down a couple of years ago and started out playing bits and pieces. And then started saying let's try to write some new material.

''We have kind of a chemistry writing together, and we can write really quickly. ''I'll sit down and try to come up with a guitar riff that I like, and if I like it I'll try to sell it to Ig. If he likes it then he'll start putting some lyrics to it and we start going back and forth. That works very well for us.''
