I Have Never Forgotten You: The Life And Legacy Of Simon Wiesenthal (2007)
12a12A

When Simon Wiesenthal was liberated from Mauthausen concentration camp in 1945, he was so hungry he ate handfuls of grass. I Have Never Forgotten You: The Life And Legacy Of Simon Wiesenthal tells the story of the man who went on to became a legendary Nazi hunter, helping to track down key architects of the Final Solution, such as Adolf Eichmann and Karl Silberbauer. Narrated by Nicole Kidman, it's a moving and fitting tribute to a great man of justice.

The story is told via interview with friends, family, colleagues, and Wiesenthal himself, who died in September 2005. Interred at Mauthausen during WWII, Wiesenthal narrowly escaped death when US forces liberated the camp in 1945. Soon, he persuaded Allied officers to let him assist in the collection of evidence that led to the Nuremburg trials of high ranking Nazis. But Wiesenthal didn't stop there; he dedicated the rest of his life to tracking down WWII Nazi war criminals, and assembling the evidence that would bring them to justice.

"A COMPELLING DOCUMENTARY"

Director Richard Trank has forged a compelling documentary from archive footage of WWII, past Wiesenthal interviews, and the memories of his friends. What emerges is a portrait not only of a man who worked tirelessly for justice, but who profoundly shaped the way we view post-conflict reconstruction; Wiesenthal's insistence that war criminals should face "justice, not vengeance", and that it is our moral duty to record crimes against humanity, are now echoed by the workings of the International Criminal Court at the Hague. A tragic, inspiring film.
