A hollow creature feature that suffers from CGI overload.

Ripper J I thought this was a good movie. I liked the mixing of classic monster stories. The characters were all well written and the acting ranged from great to excellent. The plot was predictable yet satisfying and there was enough humor to balance some of the heavy themes. Yes, the stunts were at some points cartoonish, but this wasn't supposed to be a serious movie. And while Kate Beckinsale is attractive in everything she does, I think her character's style in this movie was gorgeous. Her hair and costume are exceptional. It was a fun action flick that was well acted and satisfying. I've watched the movie several times and I expect I'll see it several more. The atmosphere, set design, costume design, visual effects, character designes and music are all really good. And compared to the garbage we get shown these days, i actually enjoy re-watching it every now and then. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review xSSx W Fantastic movie, great story. Namrata Joshi Outlook It's this relentlessness of the action and technology that make the film more of a simulated ride. I wouldn't have boarded. Nov 1, 2018 Full Review Will Self London Evening Standard The exteriors are fantastic, the castles mega-looming, and there's a beautiful -- if fanciful -- masqued ball which shows off to perfection the costumes contrived by Gabriella Pescucci. Jan 9, 2018 Full Review Sloan Freer Radio Times This is Indiana Jones meets Hammer Horror - the relentless action is blended with a knowing undercurrent and dramatic gothic styling. It just emphasizes how campy the whole premise really is. Nov 16, 2019 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Hugh Jackman stars as the sexiest Van Helsing to ever hit the screen. Even more impressive... is his larger than life screen presence and physicality that keeps his character from becoming overshadowed by the incredible amount of CGI and monster effects Rated: 3/5 Nov 3, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
