Which Used Hyundai Elantra Trim Is Right for Me?

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan comes in six trims: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Sport, and Limited. The Elantra GT hatchback comes in two trims: base and N-Line. For sedan shoppers, we recommend the SEL trim. On top of the base trim’s features, it adds additional driver assistant technology and an upgraded infotainment system with smartphone integration. To get the most fuel-efficient model in the lineup, shop for the Eco trim. The Elantra GT hatchback is a more suitable choice if you need extra cargo room; it also has more power.

  • Hyundai Elantra SE: The base SE trim comes with a 147-horsepower engine, cloth upholstery, and a rearview camera. It also features an infotainment system with a 5-inch display, six speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port. It comes with either a manual or an automatic transmission.
  • Hyundai Elantra SEL: The SEL trim adds an upgraded infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. It also comes with forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, driver drowsiness monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and lane change assist. The only available transmission is an automatic.
  • Hyundai Elantra Eco: The Eco trim gets a more fuel-efficient 128-horsepower engine paired with an automatic transmission. It also gains heated front seats, a hands-free trunk release, dual-zone automatic climate control, and two additional USB ports.
  • Hyundai Elantra Limited: The Limited trim jumps back to the 147-horsepower engine and adds leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker Infinity audio system, HD Radio, Clari-Fi music restoration technology, and Hyundai's Blue Link telematics system.
  • Hyundai Elantra GT: The base GT hatchback comes with a 161-horsepower four-cylinder engine and a similar list of features as the SEL trim. The N-Line GT hatchback swaps in a 201-horsepower turbo-four engine. The GT is available with either a manual or an automatic transmission.

What Does Hyundai's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Hyundai offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles five years old or less and with fewer than 60,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. Certified pre-owned Hyundai vehicles receive the balance of the original new-car 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, as well as the remainder of the five-year/60,000-mile comprehensive warranty. Hyundai CPO vehicles must pass a 173-point inspection. Additional benefits like towing, roadside assistance, and rental car reimbursement may be available.

Hyundai has one of the better CPO programs among affordable car manufacturers, according to our analysis. Still, automakers like Kia, Mini and Honda have better programs.

2019 Hyundai Elantra Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: 2019 Hyundai Elantra or 2019 Honda Civic?

The 2019 Honda Civic has a lower reliability rating and a higher price, on average, than the Elantra, but it still comes out on top in our compact car rankings . The Civic one-ups the Elantra in terms of body style offerings, with a coupe variant in addition to hatchback and sedan. The Civic has slightly better fuel economy ratings and is one of the most fun-to-drive cars in the class. It also boasts strong engine options, topping out with the 306-horsepower Civic Type R.

Which Is Better: 2019 Hyundai Elantra or 2019 Toyota Corolla?

The Elantra and the 2019 Toyota Corolla are closely matched in our rankings, and both are decent cars. The Toyota has a great predicted reliability rating, and it comes with a wealth of active safety features that aren't standard in every Elantra. That said, the Elantra is available with some features, like Android Auto, that are unavailable in the Corolla. Additionally, you can likely find the Elantra for less money than the Corolla.

2019 Elantra Performance

How Does the 2019 Hyundai Elantra Drive?

The Elantra sedan’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (found in the SE, SEL, and Limited trims) has adequate power for your daily travels. The GT hatchback comes with the same 2.0-liter engine, but it has added horsepower. A 1.4-liter four-cylinder that makes the Elantra more fuel-efficient is found in the Eco trim, while the strongest engine powers the N-Line GT hatchback. Keep in mind that no engine in the lineup makes the Elantra feel especially peppy.

Though some class rivals are more engaging to drive, the Elantra's comfortable ride and stable handling stack up decently among the competition. The suspension system does a good job of absorbing bumps in the road.

  • Base engine: 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder (Elantra SE, SEL, and Limited)
  • Available engines:
    • 128-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder (Elantra Eco)
    • 161-horsepower 2.0 liter four-cylinder (Elantra GT)
    • 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder (Elantra GT N-Line)
  • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
  • Transmission: standard six-speed manual; available six-speed automatic; available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (Eco and N-Line trims only)
Does the 2019 Hyundai Elantra Get Good Gas Mileage?

The Elantra earns good EPA estimates compared to many class rivals, and stepping up from its base trim to the Eco trim makes it even more efficient.

  • 2.0-liter four-cylinder: 28/37 mpg city/highway
  • 2.0-liter four-cylinder (Elantra GT): 25/32 mpg
  • 1.6-liter turbo-four: 26/33 mpg
  • 1.4-liter turbo-four: 32/40 mpg

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-highest rating of Acceptable for ease of use. The lower anchors are set too deep in the seats.

2019 Hyundai Elantra Features

The Elantra features an intuitive infotainment system, but most shoppers will want to bypass the base trim’s simple interface for the upgraded system that offers both a touch screen and physical controls. The upgraded interface also includes smartphone integration technology. With both systems, you’ll find straightforward menus and well-arranged controls on the center console.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 5-inch display, six speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port
