Gawad Kalinga-Ateneo facilitated a 2-day Magpakain Training on 23-24 March 2024 at Ateneo de Manila University. The training gathered a total of 21 participants comprising a mix of community leaders and mission workers from Gawad Kalinga across NCR (Pasig, QC, Caloocan, Manila) and North Luzon ( La Union, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Kalinga). Through a combination of workshops and in-depth discussions, this Magpakain Training aimed to equip participants with the spirit and science of implementing large-scale feeding in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal number 2 (SDG 2): Zero Hunger.
Magpakain is an integral component of the 5M Approach to Zero Hunger which aims to create an ecosystem which makes it difficult for hunger to exist. Alongside Magpakain (Feeding) are health and nutrition education for the parents (Magpakalusog) and establishing community food farms (Magtanim) which are made possible by activating local champions and localizing the response to hunger (Magtulungan) and organizing online communities for social good (Magconnect).
The Magpakain Training served as more than just a learning opportunity; it was a catalyst for empowerment and collaboration within Gawad Kalinga communities. As participants returned to their respective areas, they carried with them not only newfound knowledge but also a shared commitment to make sure that no child gets left behind and no child goes hungry in the communities under their watch.
