A local secondary school were crowned All-Ireland champions following a comprehensive win in their National Cup final on Wednesday.

Glenamaddy Community School defeated Midleton College 4-0 in the FAI Schools Minor B Girls’ National Cup decider, thanks to a brace of goals apiece from Rugby McGuire from Ali O'Toole.

Two goals in either half was enough to see John Kennedy’s side claim the silverware with an empathic team performance.

McGuire and O’Toole both netted in the second half, and it took several saves from Midleton goalkeeper, Ellie O’Leary, to keep the East Galway school at bay.

Indeed, Glenmaddy’s goalscoring prowess was a feature of their journey to victory, having scored 17 goals in their last three games and conceding just one — to Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair in the National semi-final.

Alongside John Kennedy, Gerry Davis was part of the management team.
