Product Description
Director Howard Hawks, who worked brilliantly in practically every movie genre, shows his mastery of the large-scale epic with this gigantic production filmed on location in Egypt. Thousands of extras (9,787 in one scene alone!), magnificently detailed sets (including the pyramid's inner labyrinth, booby-trapped so no one can learn its secrets and live) and vast desert vistas fill the screen and astonish the eye. There are also human-scale stories. Of the Pharoah (Jack Hawkins) who orders the pyramid as his tomb, dooming untold numbers to unending toil. Of the architect (James Robertson Justice) designing it to earn his people's freedom. Of the slaves constructing it of blood and sinew. And of the beautiful queen (Joan Collins) whose greed leads to murder - and a stunning revenge!

Thank you AMAZON for listing this BEAUTIFUL RESTORED CLASSIC in your inventory!!!
What strikes you about the film and reminds you of old Hollywood is the scope of it. The opening has Hawkins returning from a war with his people greeting him and his army marching into the capitol. Warner Brothers bragged it used over 9000 extras for the scene. It’s breathtaking. Today that would have all been done using CGI and not looked half as impressive.
What’s amazing is that they spent so much time and money on a mediocre script. It’s not that the movie is bad but it’s not an epic like Cleopatra for instance. What I liked best about Land of the Pharaohs was the ending where the usurpers got their comeuppance. It was a masterful plan.
I only watched half of the film and turned it off.
