Is fake news being spread through social media as part of an information war? Are political operatives publishing disinformation to smear the opposition and help their own agendas? Who creates fake news, how does it spread, and can it be stopped?

What are the real world effects of fake news stories that go viral? Did it affect the outcome of the 2016 presidential election? Or is ‘fake news’ a fake problem, designed to justify tighter control over the mechanisms of sharing information online to drive audiences back to brand name media outlets because their audiences and influence are dwindling?

Media analyst Mark Dice takes a close look at the fake news phenomenon and the implications of mega-corporations like Facebook, Google, and Twitter becoming the ultimate gatekeepers and distributors of news and information.

You will see the powerful and deceptive methods of manipulation that affect us all, as numerous organizations and political activists cunningly plot to have their stories seen, heard, and believed by as many people as possible.

The depths of lies, distortions, and omissions from traditional mainstream media will shock you; and now they’re colluding with the top tech companies trying to maintain their information monopolies. This is The True Story of Fake News.

... work of Mark Dice (Communication Major extraordinaire) and was pretty sure that he's a wacky entertainment type along similar ...
I knew that I would run across a chapter or two of Rush Limbaugh type bias in this work of Mark Dice (Communication Major extraordinaire) and was pretty sure that he's a wacky entertainment type along similar lines of attack, the perfect Fool to a Deck of Cards dealt America these days, and hardly the least convincing in his style of writing for this Expose: "True Story of FAKE NEWS." I was not disappointed. And yet, I was sure that I would find a number of his chapters both entertaining and actually informative. I found the book overall to be example of a fairly Smart Cookie making fair observation and assessment of the State of Affair dealing with Average American Intelligence and plain aspects of the average Social Awareness of Americans, not unlike myself. Bravo!"True Story," though? That's open to debate. Where I expected absurdity, I found it. Where I expected information of good quality, on an investigative point of how things are going these days in Media and Politics, I found that also. Ultimately, I'd say that 1/3 of this effort is little better than Flat Earth nonsense, which people of good-will have a right to indulge for themselves, maybe ventilating unconscious frustrations with their own latent stupidity (myself included) as sleepwalking or indifferent Americans. I didn't find this part of the work either convincing nor funny, and rather believe Mark expresses here the same latent shortcomings of perspective which we all, sometimes, fall victim to, victimizing each others' legitimate perspectives along the way. The repeated use of Libtards as a characterization of some colors of political idealism being chief among other common failures, but which do not fatally distract from more cogent points Mark makes on Media and the mania of divisive politics run rampant in America today.1/3 of the book takes a fairly keen look at how American Culture today presents itself in Media and Politics. I believe that much of Mark's treatment here is penetrating and convincing on many points, and in some surprising aspects hints of a complaint which only honest people are able to bring themselves to, in the midst of pervasive political madness. I'd call this aspect of his work a kind of modern "Jeremiad" along the lines of Old Testament prophets, who at least take residence with those who suffer from absurd intellectual mania, whether in Media, Politics or Pop Culture. I do believe Mark is correct on these points, and does a fair job of illuminating them in the round. Bravo!Mark more than merely seems to imply a need for Intellectual Integrity in and for his readers, whom I think he takes seriously by the genuine and quality effort that he clearly made in the best parts of this book. Bravo, also on this point. Ultimately, I think that I like what Mark does here, and what I've seen of his Interview Skills and Communication Craft he has shared with us over the years (I've been a fan for a while, I have to admit...Liberal that I am!), but which has the danger of quick becoming what I like Least about his Craft, going forward...which would be the Flat Earth nonsense of vicious, mocking and derogatory political diatribe. Let's not go there, I hope. We've had that clown show, and deserve better. But that's so far as this One reader and admirer (mostly) goes, MY observations alone, Liberal Arts Graduate that I am. MY bad.~Durandus
