Changing prefix of UPN name for authentication with no disruption

Hello

Looking to see if there is a simple process to allow for a user to log into O365 with their UPN, But with a change in the prefix of their name.

Ie On premise is name is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. Users need to log into *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

The options I can see are:

Rename all 'User Logon Names' to firstname.surname.  Not ideal

Use an alternate login ID and set a custom attribute to host the new required name  *** Email address is removed for privacy *** - I know this has limitations around the Alternate Login In

Are there any other suggestions to allow for the UPN prefix name change  with the least amount of impact to users?

Thanks

Define minimal impact? He will have to use the new value, regardless of whether you change the UPN or start using alt IDs. The later is just waaaaaay too much trouble for a simple user rename if you ask me...

Thanks for the reply.  I guess disruptive means not breaking authentication.  I was thinking of renaming the prefix of thensuffix but keep the samaccoutname as is

Hi B62IT,

It’s unfeasible to avoid the authentication impact. Since you have mentioned on-premises with Office 365, I assume that the organization is using DirSync.

Please let the end users know the change and update the UPN in on-premises, run a force sync. Once the update is synced, run an account repair in Outlook to authenticate with the new UPN.

Best Regards,
Bruce
