WEST TURIN, N.Y. -- A man was killed Saturday morning in northern New York when his snow mobile went off a trail and crashed into a tree, the New York State Police said.
About 8:40 a.m. troopers from the Lowville barracks responded to a report of a snowmobile accident on the McGoldrick Truck Trail in the Highmarket area in the town of West Turin.
State police said a man was riding a snowmobile north on the trail when he failed to negotiate a sharp left curve and the snowmobile went off the north side of the trail. The machine then hit a tree. No one else was involved in the crash.
In addition to troopers, Lewis County sheriff's deputies, Constableville Ambulance, Constableville Fire and Constableville Snow Rescue responded to the scene.
The man was taken to Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville where he died. State police did not identify the man, but said they are continuing to investigate.
