Paloma Bau is the creative force behind the interior design of Carmencita Film Lab's new space. Carmencita Film Lab is a leading company in developing and digitising analogue photography.
After opening their first shop in Valencia (2015), the new space is now in the heart of Madrid, continuing the collaborative project between the Valencian studio Paloma Bau Estudio and the brand.

Under the guidance of architect and interior designer Paloma Bau, the Valencian studio has brought to life a unique concept for the inaugural space of the Carmencita Film Lab in Madrid. This 80-square-metre space is a blend of tradition and innovation, where natural light from the outside merges with an interior skin, creating a one-of-a-kind environment.

Like a darkroom, which distorts the image when projected inside, access to the place is via a concave lens - an opening into the space created by a large curved mirror that distorts the reflection and offers a unique visual experience. Inside, a perimeter textile skin receives some of Carmencita Film Lab's most iconic images projected onto it.

The furniture, customised for the space, was inspired by the assembly line process and offers various use options: display units, waiting areas, storage, and counters. Through a small hole in the floor, you access a 30m2 basement that houses a gallery of selected works, transporting visitors to a darkroom.

The atelier has not only met the brand's practical needs for storage, display, and customer service but has also created an immersive experience for visitors. The imposing access lens and the photo booth, both 100% analogue, are a testament to the brand's commitment to its values and its desire to share its passion with visitors.

In line with the brand's identity, the Paloma Bau team has chosen a timeless and understated aesthetic for the space. This is reflected in the use of raw and natural materials such as iroko wood, stone, jute, and cotton, which not only enhance the visual appeal but also contribute to the overall atmosphere of the space.
The pieces of furniture, made from lacquered iroko wood with a micro cement finish, overlap and connect to move and rotate on an axis according to the establishment's needs. The furniture is complemented by classic design pieces, such as the TMM lamp by Miguel Milá for Santa & Cole and various plants. In addition, the technical lighting was supplied by Arkoslight and the floor-to-ceiling hanging lamps were designed by Paloma Bau using LED tubes.

To conclude this experience of immersion in the universe of the Carmencita Film Lab, the studio chose to carry out a photo shoot of the space in analogue format by photographer Jorge Peiró.
