Notes

According the official Prince account on Instagram this release is limited to 14,000 copies worldwide.

RSD 2019: Replica of 1985 Japanese Limited Edition Prince release “His Majesty’s Pop Life / The Purple Mix Club” originally limited to a run of 500, released in Japan only!

Sides A & B play at 45 rpm
Sides C & D play at 33 1/3 rpm

"Pop Life" listed as "Fresh Dance Mix", just like on the original Japanese issue.
Side C incorrectly printed label for "Little Red Corvette" as "Album Version".

Includes a separate info sheet similar to the original promo insert, however measuring smaller at 11" x 11" compared to the promo insert at 11.5" x 11.5" and resulting in compressed printing. Insert is printed in U.S.A. Record labels show "Made in the E.U.".

Back cover credits show "Printed in Canada". Re-press cover is a much thinner card stock and does not contain banded reinforced sleeve pockets like the original Japan promo.

I'm not sure what the original "reviewer" was thinking, but I'm very satisfied with the sound quality of this rerelease. Erotic City doesn't have the dropout that is present on the Purple Rain CD rerelease. If I had one gripe, it's that the retail pricing on it is high, considering the amount of music present. Still, if you're a Prince fan and want these particular mixes on vinyl, it's a solid release.
        • on various platforms fans say

"Pop Life" is NOT the "Fresh Dance Mix" but the regular Extended Version
"Little Red Corvette" is NOT the "Dance Mix" (as on cover) but the album version (as on labels) ...

so what is the truth? is there a difference to the original Japanese release? And what is about the glitch in "Erotic City"?

Priced locally at $38.99 which is comparable to other Record Store Day exclusives. So for a fan who could not attain the original promo it is probably exciting and satisfying to have this unique collection added to their Prince catalog.

It's nice to have as a fan, but the sound on record two is just sub-standard. I find it hard to believe this was approved by WB or the Prince estate.
              • Don't waste your money...! What you're seeing here is a blatant fan exploitation. The point is that the 1985 original is a high-standing Japanese pressing from the heyday. But this thing here is just a chap replica, pressed in rushed mass production somewhere in Europe. The music is compiled from some files that were just at hand (You may expect the same failure at the beginning of "Erotic City" as occurred on "Purple Rain Deluxe" 2 years ago). Then the "WRECKASTOW" sticker... sorry but the context to this term belongs to the movie "Under The Cherry Moon" (1986) and definitely doesn't belong here. That means you'll store a fata morgana on your shelf; a illusion like Carmen Electra's new cups size. some may like it but the bottom line remain: it's fake ;-)
