Been there yesterday with our Japanese guest and regret submitting our guest to German inhospitality.
1. The entry fee of 8 Euros is by far too high.
2. Sat down in the local cafe only to be rather rudely told off by the waitress that the table was reserved, even though the reserving pair did not show up within twenty minutes beyong the reservation time.
3. Before even getting into the cafe we were told 'this way back will be closed in one hours time, if you are not back within time, you will have to leave the gardens completely'. Reminded us of old school days when the principal told off pupils.
4. Trying to enter the museum, a matron stopped us 'You cannot enter the museum with an umbrella. You must to go back to the far entrance and use a locker'.
The entire place lacks some friendly staff, but apparently this is quite typical to Germany in general and hannover in particular.
We will not have that experience again with future valued guests.

Beautiful and large garden. The diversity in landscaping is breathtaking. Keep in mind that it's pretty crowded here and apparently a popular shooting spot for married couples. All in all would recommend coming here and to take your time to walk through most of the garden which should take an hour or 2/3.

The Herrenhäuser Gardens is located in the northwestern part of Hannover. It is easy to reach by car or public transport (U4 and 5). The area is vast with gardens representing different periods of time, such as baroque, rococo, and renaissance. It is nice to spend a sunny afternoon walking around the well maintained gardens and sculptures. The present castle is a reconstruction, as the original was completely destroyed during WW2.
During summer some of the monuments and fountains are illuminated and recorded music is played on select evenings. We had the opportunity to experience this, which was very beautiful and enjoyable.

I was a little deterred by the rain but I wanted to visit the gardens and I was so glad I did.
Tickets are€8 but that includes the museum and the botanical gardens. On a pleasant weather day you could literally spend hours in this garden. So much to see and so well maintained. It was a real highlight of my trip.

One of the top things to see in Hannover; we were lucky, the weather was nice, all the fountains were on. The greenhouses with all the cactee are amazing.
On Youtube several drone views of the gardens.
Ticket is 8€ for the Grosser Garten,Berggarten & the Museum (we did not go in the museum).

Herrenhaeuser Garten are the pleasure gardens of the former House of Hanover. The place is just full of beautiful gardens collectively forming the great gardens of the royal palace. There's a mix of different european style gardens such as Baroque, French and Italian, the Garden of Golden Figures is especially attractive and the Great Cascade is an amazing fountain feature.
Definitely worth visiting if in Hanover.

I loved both the Great Garden and the Berggarten- they are both absolutely beautiful! There is even a section of the Berggarten that features the native flowers of northern Germany. In addition, this was the perfect time of year to go. I also suggest 1. purchasing the 4 euro ticket that includes both the Great and Berg Gardens and then 2. going to the Berggarten first, followed by visiting the Great Garden. In my opinion, you could easily spend 3 hours at each garden. This was my favorite attraction in Hannover. From Hannover Hbf, take U-bahn yellow line 4 or 5 direction Garbsen or Stocken, and get off at the Herrenhauser Garten stop. If you can't find the yellow line at the Hbf, take the blue line to Kropcke direction Empelde or Wettbergen. Link to Ubahn plan:

Discriminating and dog-hating place! You cannot bring a dog in a leach to a garden ??? What’s wrong in their heads.

Easy to get to by tram from the centre. I only visited the gardens (free in winter) and could appreciate how fabulous they are in summer. Many beautiful statues throughout.

My wife and I visited in early March. All the fountains had been drained and turned off due to the colder winter weather. The palace itself was also closed. Ok, the ticket price was cheaper due to all of this and although much of it was closed it was still very impressive. If your only going to be in Hannover once and it’s during the winter, I would still say go there, but if you have a choice then visit between May and August.

Can admission tickets to get into the gardens be purchased ahead of time? I'm not able to find any kind of online box office. Or are tickets purchased in person at the time of the visit?
What are opening hours in November 2019 for Niki de St. Phalle's Grotto in the Großer Garten?

I'm visiting the gardens next weekend and hope to see the sound and light show. Do I need to book a separate ticket for this? And what time does the light and sound begin?
Dear Helen, thank you for your question. We open the Great Garden at 20 p.m. for the Illumination. The price is four Euro. We wish you a wonderful time at Herrenhäuser Gärten.

Noi abbiamo spento tre ore tra i giardini e l'orto botanico. Forse se fa bel tempo puoi restare un po in piú. E molto bello.

There is a Parking Lot close to the entrance. I don't know the exact fees but it should be around 1-2€ an hour.
