Henry Wellesley, 3rd Duke of Wellington, was a son of Lord Charles Wellesley and his wife, Augusta Sophia Anne Pierrepont, daughter of The Hon. Henry Pierrepont. He was a grandson of the 1st Duke of Wellington. He inherited the dukedom when in 1884 his uncle, the 2nd Duke of Wellington, died childless. He was married on March 7, 1882 to Evelyn Katrine Gwenfra Williams (1855 – 11 March 1939). They had no issue. He was succeeded by his brother, Arthur Charles.
